I don't really know if it is possible to check your bags all the way through your final destination when you have two separate tickets. I would suggest to call South African((800) 722-9675 ) in advance and double check with them.

Hi, I fly to JFK on 19th July with Virgin Atlantic 13:25, my flight number is VS0003, I think that's terminal 4.

I then have a transfer to American Airlines which departs at 15:40 and I think this is terminal 8; flight number is 1917.

I want to know how I go about sorting out my luggage and how I get to terminal 8. Do I have enough Time?

Thank you very much,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Yes, you are correct - arriving at Terminal 4 and departing out of Terminal 8. You do have enough time to make the transfer.
Use Airtrain - the station at T4 is located on the third floor;take ANY train on ANY track/side - it is only three stops to T8.
What do you mean by "sorting the luggage"?

I was meaning I guess I have to collect my luggage from Virgin and then Drop off my luggage with AA. Is that what I have to do?? Thanks again.

Mark,
At Terminal 4 you have to pick up your bags because you will be going through US customs with them.
After that you have a choice:
-either re-check them in at Connecting flights counter for Virgin Atlantic at T4 after customs;
-or take them with you to T8 and re-check them in at AA check-in counter.

Which option of checking in the bags do you think is quicker? The Virgin Connecting flights of the AA check in? Are we going to have to go to AA check in whatever we decide to do with the bags?

Usually the first option is quicker.
If you don't have boarding pass for your AA flight you have to go to AA check-in counter and obtain one.

Hello,

We will arrive with Icelandair on April 15th, 07:00PM, at terminal 7 (I think).

We have another flight from JFK to RDU at 10:00PM with American Airlines.

We will probably only have on-board luggage.

Could you give us directions on how to travel within JFK from arrival to our correct departure location?

Thank you,

Once you clear customs at T7, exit the terminal, go across the street and upstairs to the Airtrain platform. There take ANY train on track 1. Next stop would be American Airlines terminal 8. The ride is only a minute and it is free. There, go down to the second floor, cross over through the connector and go up to the third floor - that is where AA departure level is.

Hello. My boyfriend and I are flying out Thursday morning April 15. Our tickets were booked in advanced (e-tickets) by my parents and one of the names were spelled incorrectly. I have contacted American Airlines and I was told that a note has been made, and that the desk clerk would see it when they print out the tickets. I just want to make sure if that won't cause any problems and if I need to call the airline desk at the airport to confirm.

Thank you very much.

You should be fine since you contacted the airline and they assured you that the problem has been taken care of.

I am flying with delta airlines from Ireland to JFK and then onto Las Vegas. Whats happens when we arrive in JFK do our bags go straight through if we check then in for both flights in Ireland or do we have to claim them as its an international flight then an domestic flight or do they go through to Vegas. Do we go through immigration in JFK when we land or in Las Vegas as our final destination. We also have 3 hours 10 mins stop over is this enough time to get to our second flight. Thank you.

You do pass the immigration/customs at JFK. For that purpose you have to pick up your bags here, at JFK, go through customs and then recheck the bags to LAS. The time frame is more than enough. Since you have both flights on Delta then you don't have to change buildings - everything that takes place at Terminal 3.
