Don't take chances with the Jet Blue flight - it is too tight. The time difference is not big but if you don't have any other choice(later flight than 7:30pm) go with Delta-7:30pm.

Question about going from T4 to T5
My parents are arriving from India on T4 at 6 am on May 25th and will take a Jet Blue flight to Boston at 9:15 am from T5. Do you think this is enough time for them to clear immigration and customs? Would they have to carry their baggage to T5 for rechecking? Can they take the luggage carts on the airtrain? They will have 4 suitcases and 2 carry ons- what is the most convenient way to get to T5 from T4 for them? Thanks a lot.

They have plenty of time. They can re-check their bags at Air India connecting flights counter(located right after they pass the customs at T4) - in that case Air India will transfer the bags over to Jet Blue.
The luggage carts are permitted on Airtrain.
Advice them go on the third floor of Terminal 4 and take Airtrain on track 1, get off next stop, which will be Terminal 5.

It is called Airtrain . You can take it on the third floor at Terminal 1 , on ANY track, and get off Terminal 5 - it is only couple of minutes ride.

Visiting
My friend is departing on Jetblue flight 1109 tonight from JFK and I would like to visit her before she leaves but obv. I do not have a ticket. Am I allowed to wait at the gate with her until she boards? How far in can I go?

You can go with her as far as security check point at Terminal 5. You will not be allowed to go to the gate.
