Since you are arriving international you have to pick up your bags in order to go through US customs. Then recheck them in at AA connecting flights counter(located right after customs).

It can be done only for wheelchair assistance.

I am flying Virgin America (terminal 4) to JFK and then going to terminal 8 and flying to Copenhagen via Finnair... We are not checking luggage. Is two hours enough time to make it through security and get to the gate? Should I look in to changing my flight?

I'm arriving on American Airlines (T8) at 8:55pm from LAX, but then I have to catch a Delta Airlines (T3) to Dublin, Ireland at 10:25pm. My travel agent told me that my checked-in baggage on AA needs to be checked out and then cleared at customs before I check it in again at Delta in order to fly to Dublin. Is this correct? Also, where is customs between T8 and T3? Lastly, if my travel agent is correct, will I have enough time to clear customs, check-in my baggage, and then make my flight at 10:25pm? Thanks!

You are arriving domestic on AA so there is no need to go through customs. I have no idea why your travel agent told you that you have to check out the bags at JFK(as far as I know Delta an AA have an baggage transfer agreement, which means AA can check your bags all the way through Dublin). Double check that with AA in LAX before you leave.
The time window is OK as long as AA is not late.

I arrive on 28th May at T8 with AA at 7:50pm
I have to wait until the following night at 7:05pm flying with AA to Manchester UK. Will my luggage go straight through to Manchester, or will I have to collect it as I am going to the airport hotel for the evening? Thanks for your help

I guess since the time window is less than 24 hours then AA would be able to check your bags in for the next flight. But double check with them when you land.

My sister is arriving on an AA flight from San Francisco, terminal 8. I will be picking her up at the airport but she may have to wait a few hours for me. Are there restaurants/shops for her to hang around after claiming her baggage, and where is the best place to meet her after I park at airport?

Terminal 8 , 1st floor is a good place to meet each other. There is no restaurants at T8 - there is only a coffee shop on the first floor.

I fly into JFK from LHR with AA (terminal 8) at 2:40pm. Then I have my next flight at 5:05pm to Pittsburgh, also AA and terminal 8. But because I booked the flights separately, I think i will have to clear customs, pick up my luggage and then check in for my next flight. Is this enough time? I am a resident of the USA (Green Card) but a British National so I don't know how long it will take to clear customs. Do you think I'll make it in time? Also, if I do miss my JFK - PIT flight, will I have to pay for the next available one, as I bought the tickets separately for each flight on AA's website? (both flights are with AA) Thank you

You should be OK. I assume you are not Green card holder entering US first time(otherwise it will take you longer in immigration). If you miss the flight , then you have to pay rescheduling fee(it is usually around $50-$100) for them to reschedule the flight.

Which gate numbers are these flights:

  • AY005 from Helsinki friday at 3:50pm
  • AA613 to Miami friday at 6:15pm

    Do I have enough time since there's only couple of hours in-between for immigration and all...? I must take all my luggage out of there to go thru customs, correct?

    It is not possible to tell you the gate numbers since AA changes them sometimes.
    You do have enough time.
    You will pick up your bags and go through US customs.
