After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

I am flying with American Airlines arriving at JFK terminal 8, mid afternoon on a Wednesday, staying overnight and then flying on to Orlando, also with AA and from terminal 8, the next morning. On arrival at JFK will the airline keep hold of my bags and transfer them for the onward journey to Orlando?

As far as I know the airline can hold your bags as long as your next connecting flight with them is within 24 hours. Double check with AA about that.
Are both flights on the same ticket(itinerary)?
If they are not, there is no way AA to know about your second flight so most likely they will display your bags at the baggage belt.

Thanks very much for your reply, appreciated.
Yes, both flights are on the same ticket/itinerary.
I did get in touch with AA, at their UK base, where they confirmed your answer. Apparantly I will need to collect my bags as normal and then hand them back in straight away for the onward flight.
Thanks again.

Ask also AA here, at JFK , as soon as you land that question. They may have different answer(not to put a doubt on their colleagues in UK).
Even we are looking at the same airline , the procedures can be different in different countries.

Hey,

I was wondering in regards to a past question whether my dad could wait with me for my flight to Finland at the terminal (past security) when I come to JFK from RDU? I basically have a seven hour layover.

He will not be able to pass security without a boarding pass or gate pass, and most airlines only issue gate passes for special circumstances (such as a parent meeting a unaccompanied traveling minor, etc.). You can arrange to meet outside of security at your arrival terminal or another terminal (terminal 4 has restaurants and such pre-security) and then you will need to go through security for your Finland flight.

My wife has never traveled internationally by herself. She will be arriving JFK from ATL on 28 Sep, Delta Flt 192 and departing to SNN on Delta Flt 122. Can you tell me which terminal/gate she will be arriving and which terminal/gate she will be departing from.

delta from Atlanta may arrive at T3 or T2. Delta to SNN may depart from T2,T3 or T4(most likely T3).
