After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

Hello! I am traveling from JFK to Peru (connecting in Panama) in July. According to the Copa Airlines Webpage, I do not need to go through customs during the connecting flights. Can you please tell me when I DO go through customs? Is it at JFK before I leave, or at LIM when I land in Lima?
Thanks, Colleen

Definitely, not at JFK. You may have to go either in Panama or in Peru or could be in both.

My flight from Italy lands at JFK at 1:40 pm. My flight to Chicago leaves at 3:05 pm. Is that enough time to clear customs etc? Where will I need to go and what happens with my luggage? Thanks.

You have to pick up your bag before you go through US customs. Then re-check it either at connecting flights counter for the airline that flew your in from Italy or take it with you and re-check it in at the counter for the airline that will fly you over to Chicago.
You have just enough time.

Hi

I am arriving at JFK at 16.40 on April 28 and want to travel by public transport from the airport to the library Hotel at 299 Madison Avenue at 41st Street.

Could you advise me of the best route please?

Thank you for your help.

Chris

By public transportation: take Airtrain from your terminal to Jamaica station. Then take E subway to Lexington Ave. and transfer to the downtown/Brooklyn bound 4,5 or 6 subway to 42nd St./Grand Central. Walk one block west to Madison Ave. and then turn left. Cost is $7.25 and time frame is a little over one hour.
Taxi from JFK is a flat rate of $50.50 ($45 plus $5 toll and 50 cent surcharge) and time frame is 35-60 minutes depending on time of day and traffic.

Thank you very much indeed for your help

Is there any restaurant that is open for Breakfast at 7am in Terminal 5 that 120 people can sit together?

Hello,
My luggage never made it to Jfk two days ago from Atlanta and I have things that were very important to me. Can anybody just show up to the baggage claim area and claim it? I would think (and hope) some form of documentation(or a file number) would be needed before handing luggage over. The luggage is nowhere to find at this time and somebody else claiming it is the only scenario I can think of at this time.

As you writing "your bags have never made it to JFK" I find it hard to believe that somebody show up at the baggage belt and claimed it. The possible scenario that might have happened is that the luggage had made it to JFK and then somebody(either from the same flight or from outside, if it is domestic flight) had claimed it. Unfortunately, nobody at JFK checks who claims what.
But the airline must have a record(proof) that the luggage was loaded on the plane and brought to JFK.

Can you pls. tell me if there is public transporation from JFK to the train that goes to River Edge, NJ? If so, what is the best way to get there & the cost- or does it make sense to just get a shuttle or car service?
thanks!

The River Edge, NJ train(NJ Transit train) departs out of Penn Station in Manhattan. Getting there is easy by public transportation from JFK.
Take Airtrain from any terminal on track 1 to Jamaica Station( be careful - on that track there are two alternating trains going two different routes; check the sign above the doors as the train arrives; the red colored sign is Jamaica one). Then either:
-take subway line E to Penn Station(total fare - $7.25) or
-take LIRR train to Penn Station(faster;total fare ~ $12, less on the weekends)

Was wondering if there is a way I could help out stranded passengers by assisting a couple or family with temporary housing. Is there someone I can contact?
