Hi there,

is it safe traveling from the JFK Intl. Airport to Manhattan/Harlem at night? I booked a flight that arrives at JFK at 22:10, so I suppose that I should be in Manhattan by 00:30 or 01:00 respectively.

Is it safe to walk a couple of blocks with a large backpack on my back in Harlem area?

What's the alternative? Take a taxi from the subway station? Or not use AirTrain/subway at all and take a taxi? I could also use the bus transfer, but there would still be the problem (?) of reaching my hostel safely when walking from the bus stop in Manhattan to my hostel.

Thanks in advance for your help, I appreciate it.

Andy

I'm immigrating to USA. please i need to know the steps to follow once i arrive from terminal 1 and leave JFK from terminal 3.
Should i take the bags first or go to immigration office first?where is located the nearest immigration office between terminal 1 & 3? how can i transport there? Thanks a lot

After you get off the plane, you will go to immigration control. This happens before you get your bags. They will look at your paperwork and then take you to get your fingerprints taken. They stamp your visa and then that's it. Go and collect your bags. Your green card will come in the mail.

Once you arrive, you will have to stand in a line up for immigration control. You have to pass through this line before you get to your bags. You will show the immigration officer all your paperwork and s/he will take you to an office where you will have your fingerprints taken. I think they stamp your visa and then you can go and get your bags and that's it. Then you get your green card in the mail.

Halo...This is my first time in USA...I need to get to Connecticut from JFK..Can anyone tell me how can i get to Grand Street Station to catch a bus to Connecticut?

It would be faster to take Connecticut Limo (it is a bus) from JFK to Connecticut. It avoids the trip into Manhattan. Connecticut Limo goes to New Haven and makes other stops along the way. http://www.ctlimo.com/

There are shuttle buses from each terminal to Grand Central or Port Authority. There is also a subway to Post Authority and then you can taxi or bus across to Grand Cental

hi,
arriving on next thursday..
how do i get from jfk to manhatan?
(i take the jamaica station, get off at LIRR and then walk over "to Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station " and take one subway into manhatan?)
how long does it take untill ur in manhatan?

thanx !
nadav

oh i did not answer how long it takes. with LIRR train it should not take more than 20 minutes. if you catch a nonstop, it probably takes 15 min. with subway, depending on where you go, it would take at least 30 minutes. but probably longer if you are going to uptown in manhattan

you can take the airtrain to jamaica station.from there you can either walk to LIRR and take the train straight into Penn station in NYC (i think it costs about 4 dollars, but it is fast) OR you can go to Sutphin Blvd/Archer Ave and take the subway into the city. The subway would take longer, but it is only 2 dollars per ride. Overall, it is very easy to get to the city if you have time.

Where can I buy Pay-per-ride and weekly unlimited ride metrocards at JFK? Thanks

the closest will be at the Jamaica station.

There are 24 hr vending machines

and during the day at the jamaica station MTA (metropolitan transit authority)

Google maps is a great site for NYC public transportamntion ands also you can look at the MTA site

Search MTA in google

I have a flight leaving JFK at 6.20 am on thursday morning. Does the airtrain run all night? Is it safe to take the subway to Howard Beach at this time? How frequently do the trains run?

How can I go from JFK to 400e on 48th st in Manhattan?

If one had to go to T4 from T3 & that the air train goes clockwise, how do we prevent landing up at the Jamaica/Howard Station?

How long does it take to get to T4 from T3?

Thanks a bunch
