You can take either E subway or LIRR (faster than subway, a bit more expensive) from Penn Station to Jamaica and then Airtrain from there to all terminals. Airtrain/subway is $7.25 and Airtrain/LIRR is $10.25 off peak, $13 peak. There's also the NYAS express bus from Penn Station to all JFK terminals ($13).

hello, we arrive from Australia on Thursday 19th August on UA at 2115 please will you tell us how to get to The Standard Washington St via train and the expected cost
thanks for your help

Take Airtrain from your terminal to Howard Beach Station. Take the Manhattan-bound A subway to 14th St. Walk west (towards the Hudson River) two blocks to Washington St. and turn left for 1-1/2 blocks to your hotel. Airtrain is $5 and subway is $2.25 which can be purchased together on a regular Metrocard when you exit the Airtrain. If you expect to use public transportation during your stay you can put any amount on the card and up to 4 persons can use one card.

We are arriving at JFK at 9:07 am. We are trying to find the best way to get to westhampton without costing us a lot. It looks like we can take the air tran from JFK to Jamaica Station to catch the LIRR to Westhampton for a 11:33 departure. Can you please advise me if this is the best, most inexpensive way to get there? Also, is a 9:07am arrival at JFK to catch the LIRR for a 11:33am departure feasible? Thank you for any help!

This is definitely the best and cheapest, LIRR fare is $14.25 off-peak plus $5 Airtrain fare. It will only take you 15 minutes to get from your terminal to Jamaica Station on the Airtrain and a few minutes to purchase your ticket so you're ok even if you get to the station 15-20 minutes before departure. You can purchase your Airtrain and LIRR fares on the same ticket at Jamaica Station on the self-service machines. Just follow the instrutions on the machine, it's pretty easy, and there are nice folks there to help you.

i just want to make sure i am understanding correctly if i am going to penn station after my flight i take the air train to lirr and then lirr to penn?? and what would be the total cost of that??

You are correct. The total cost is $5(for Airtrain) plus the fare for LIRR:
$8.00(Peak) or $5.75(Off Peak) or $3.50(on weekends, so called "city ticket").

Hi, I need to know how can i go from terminal #8 to terminal #4. Please!!
Thanks!!!!!!

We are getting in Jfk at 7:30pm on a Thurs and want a good , safe way to get to North Port, LI and do not know the area. Is Air Tran and good option?

Yes, take AirTrain to Jamaica Station and then LIRR train to Northport(Port Jefferson Branch).
The Airtrain to Jamaica will cost you $5 and it takes ~20min. LIRR to Northport leaves aprox. every 2 hours and costs ~$9. It takes 1 hour to get there.

We arrive at JFK Aug 28th around 1pm we have little over 8 1/2 layover for our next flight which is international. We are thinking about getting a locker and placing our carry on baggage in. We what to take airtran to Jamaica station then get the Subway e line to the Empire state Building since it was in the clouds when we were in NYC in April. So does the directions sounds correct in how we want to travel ? also what all will we need to re-enter the Airport ? Our boarding passes, ID's ?

You have to get off subway E to connect with M(which will bring you closer to Empire State building) - it is convenient to do so at 5Ave/53rd street stop. There take subway M bound to downtown and get off at 34th street/Herald Square stop.
Take the same route back(M->E->Airtrain).
To re-enter the Airport(or exactly - to board your plane) you will need a boarding pass and form of picture ID.
