We're flying from London arrive JFK T8 10.55pm our next flight is 08.00am same terminal, both flights are AA. Do we need to pick up our luggage? We're planning on not to get a hotel for those waiting hours, any suggetions on what to do while waiting on the next flight? Is T8 open 24/7? Thank you in advance for reply.
You will need to pick up
You will need to pick up your luggage to clear customs when you arrive. After you clear customs you can drop your bags at the AA connecting flights counter for the next flight. Terminal 4 is open 24 hours, you can go there on Airtrain track 2 and then return to terminal 8 for your next flight.

I have a VX flt dep Term 4. Want to use Red Carpet in Term 7.
Is this easily doable. Behind security, etc??

But there is about 2hour 30mins for the transition.
Is the time enough for the transition?
Do i need to pick up my luggage myself and recheck-in Or the airlines would do the luggage transfer for me?

The time window is enough for you to transfer . And, yes, you have to pick up the bags, go through US customs and then transfer them onto your next flight.

I will be flyng into jfk from the ukfor a stop over of approximately 3 hours before boarding an onward flight to fll.. can anyone tell me is there anywhere I can smoke in this time ?/ thanks
JFK is a smoke-free airport
JFK is a smoke-free airport so you must exit the terminal to smoke outside and then re-enter through security. Be sure to take your boarding pass and ID.
