My daughter is arriving Terminal 8 from Toronto at 8.10am and has to catch SAA flight to Johannesburg from Terminal 4 at 10.40.
1) Does she have to collect her bags and go through customs in terminal 8?
2) How does she get to Terminal 4 to catch the flight?
3) Does she have enough time?

1)No, she will clear US customs prior to departure at Toronto. She should ask at Toronto check-in if her bags will be checked through to Johannesburg. If not she will need to collect her bags and check-in at T4.
2)Take AirTrain on track 2 from T8 to T4.
3)She should have enough time to transfer.

Arriving JFK at 1.50pm via Emirates at T4, and need to catch an AA flight to Costa Rica from T8 at 4.00 pm. Will that be enough time to clear immigration and customs? Not sure if he we'll have to collect bags and check in once more. The travel agent says he's 'trying to get luggage checked through' to Costa Rica, but since it's a different airline, I'm a little skeptical. I'd be grateful for any help/tips.

Regardless if your bags are checked through you will have to collect them on arrival at JFK T4 to clear customs. If bags checked through to final destination take to the AA connecting flights counter to the right after you exit customs, if not you will need to check-in at AA in T8. Take any AirTrain on track 1 (3rd floor of T4)to T8.

I'm traveling with a friend, but we're on separate airlines (and in different terminals). We are planning on getting to the airport at the same time, but his flight leaves later than mine. Will he be able to wait with me in my terminal if he has a ticket for a flight that leaves from a different terminal?

My S is scheduled to depart on delta at 6:30pm this Wed.
He is a freshman at NYU. What time should he leave class and catch a taxi at Waverly Place? I am nervous about him missing his flight. thank you. His clas ends at 4:30 but I told him he would need to leave class earlier.

He definitely needs to leave earlier than 4:30. It would be a rush hour at that time so 1.5 hours earlier is a good time to leave. He has to be at JFK at 4:30 for 6:30 flight.

Thank you for your reply. Did you mean 2.5 hours? If he leaves class at 4:00 can a taxi get him there in 30 minutes
from NYU? We don't know the distance and rush hr time to JFk as this will be his first airplane trip from school.THX

I meant 1.5 hours before 4:30 - that is the safest time to get from the city to JFK.
In normal circumstances the taxi ride takes between 40-45 mins, in the traffic that time can be as much as double.

Hi! I'm flying ANA from Narita to JFK and arriving at 9.30 am. in mid December. Then I have to connect to Delta flight to New Orleans at 11.30 am. With custom clearing and luggage pick up, check in at Delta counter and go through security screening, will I have enough time to make it ? How to go from T7 to T3? Thanks

Two hours time is enough for you to make the connection. Take Airtrain across the streets from T7 and upstairs , on track 2 and get off at Terminal 3. It is about 3-4 minutes ride.

my sister who is pregnant is flying into terminal 7 with my 2 year old nephew. am i allowed to meet her in baggage claim to help her get her bags, or do i have to wait outside

At T7 you have to wait outside baggage claim, regardless if the flight is domestic or international.

I am flying into Terminal 7 on British Air from Heathrow, landing at 8:55 pm. Do I have enough time to clear customs and recheck my bags for a Jet Blue flight to Rochester from Terminal 5, departing at 10:45 pm?

You should be OK as long as BA is on time .
