History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

Jet blue and Emirates do not have a luggage agreement so yes you will have to recheck your bags at Emirates check in counter at terminal 4. You can politely ask a porter for some help at the airport.

To let you know: JFK airtrain is broken, find an alternative way to get to the airport! only one bus in half an hour drives passangers from jamaica station to terminals and there's a huge line. Why isnt there any info at JFK pages about this? I heard the airtrain was broken yesterday, so there was time to spread the word.

I'm departing at 22:00 tonight with CX 889 from jFk to hongkong. Is the flight cancelled due to the weather? I can't contact anybody in cathay and the website didn't help either. Anybody has info on this flight?

I am on the same flight and they just updated this to a 2 hour delay. I don't want to try and get to the airport tonight and want to change the booking to tomorrow but can't contact the airline to do that. Does anybody have a number for the check-in desk?

I am mailing to find out whatever information I can about the Delta flight 9084 that my Boyfriend is supposed to arrive on to be flying into Heathrow on Monday 27th Dec. Arrival in UK 7am Heathrow.
