History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

My father had a flight from Tel Aviv to JFK. your website indicate he landed at 6:30 am today 1/19/11, but I didn’t hear from him yet, he was suppose to call me.

lost baggage
hi JFK please i lost my bags at the transit area in the airport in NY on the 7th of January as my flight arrived from Morocco and i had to fly till Wichita in kansas at the ICT airport.i Boarded an AT200 from morocco and Took delta airlines for wichita but while there i didnt find any of my bags.i only received one of them yesterday and the airline say they have no info about the other one.I took royal air maroc till newyork and then Delta airlines till wichita.the tag on the bag is XH 548725 and its 23Kg and is blue having a small green lock with no side pockets.its a sports bag.Hope you help me trace it out.also from NY to atlanta i took flight DL1684 on the 8th of january and then flight DL4964 from atlanta to wichita.Hope u help me please,i can't enroll to university without the documents in that bag.Tanks and my address is 2221N hillsides,wichita,KS 67219 and home number 3169782410.Hope u help solve my problem.

Airport Closing Record 12/26/10-12/28/10
We were aboard a flight waiting for departure when JFK officially closed due to blizzard about 10PM on 26 December 2010. We finally departed just after midnight the morning of 12/28/10. Now we need verification of JFK closure to make a travel insurance claim. Is there a way to obtain this record online? (We would work through the carrier, Egyptair, but their website doesn't permit such inquiries.) Thank you.
