Need to recheck luggage?
Hello,
In a couple of months my wife and I will be travelling from Halifax, Canada to JFK on AA 4458, arriving at 7:40am, landing at terminal 8. We need to make a 9:00am connecting flight to LAX, AA 0001, at terminal 4.
1) Will we need to collect and recheck our bags
2) And if so, will we have enough time (We clear US customs in Canada).

1.In Canada you can ask for your bags to be transfered all the way to your final destination which in this case is LA. If your bags will be transfered to your final destination then you wont have to collect them.
2. Going through Customs will be a big plus for you and you will make your connection as long as your first flight is on time.

travel from Canada thru JFK to LAX
American Airlines Flight number 1 leaves at 9:00 from Terminal 8 according to my travel agent. It is not at Terminal 4. With that said I believe you have a short time to clear customs and grab luggage and recheck it to LAX. Is there any way you can check the luggage through to LAX?

Anyone who knows about the smoking areas at teminal 8? Is there any possibilities before outside the building?

Terminal 7 to Terminal 8 transfer
I am arriving on IB6251 connecting to AA017. IB uses Terminal 7 and AA is in Terminal 8. I think what will happen is that I will clear Customs and Passport Control in Terminal 7, then exit to the Airtrain with my bags and re-check with AA in Terminal 8 and pass Security in Terminal 8. Questions:
1. at one time quite a while ago, there was an airside transfer bus between T7 and T8, does that still operate?
2. is there a baggage recheck area in T7 for AA flights departing T8 or do I have to take my bags with me to T8 after Customs?
3. I have 2:15 to make my connection, which should be plenty of time. Though I've heard lately that T8 Security has seen horrendous lines and delays. I will be passing through at around 6pm on a Thursday, will there possibly be significant delays at that hour?
4. There is an earlier flight (AA177) leaving at 18.05. My IB flight arrives at 17.10, but when it departs on time, it typically arrives 30 minutes early. And AA177 typically departs late. I'm wondering if there would be enough time to try to Stand-By for AA177, how much time is typically needed to make this transfer, would 1:30 be reasonable?

3. There might be longer lines at that time but you have a good time frame to make that connection.
4. I would allow longer time frame between flights 2 hours and 15 minutes to be on a safe side. One hour and 30 minutes will be a very tight connection especially on an international flight. 2 hours and 15 minutes will be more comfortable time frame.

Terminal 8 Short Term Parking
How close is Terminal 8 short term parking to the terminal? Is it a walk? I am travelling for one overnight and want to leave my car there vs. long term parking.
