JFK International Airport AirTrain

AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK

It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.

Air Train JFK has
3 routes:

  • Howard Beach route

The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.

Connecting transit services: A subway train, Q11 bus

  • Jamaica Station route

The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn
and Manhattan or Queens).

Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.

  • Airline Terminal route

The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,

Take AirTrain on track 2 from T7 to T4.

I will be arriving at JFK airport at 00:40 am on the 25th May and need to get to Central Islip. Can you please tell me which trains to catch and the costs and whether the trains run there all night?

Take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to LIRR to Central Islip. Trains run every two hours departing Jamaica at 1:32am and 3:39am, travel time about one hour and fare is $9 off-peak.

Hello,
I have clients travelling from D.C to JFK for their flight back to Sydney, Australia. What is the best option for them by rail? thank you

Take Amtrak from DC to Penn Station, transfer to LIRR to Jamaica, transfer to AirTrain to terminals.

3 adults travelling from Sheraton Tribeca to JFK. Is it correct to take the A line subway from Canal St to Howard beach station and change for the A-train to Terminal 7?

How long will this take? Need to check in 16.45.

Do you know with the subway at Canal St A-line and changing at Howard beach station is it difficult with large bags, up/down stairs, through turnstyles?

Yes, take the Far Rockaway-bound A subway to Howard Beach and transfer there to AirTrain to all terminals. Do not take the Lefferts Blvd-bound A subway as it will not stop at Howard Beach. You will need to negotiate stairs and turnstiles at the Canal St. station, there are escalators and elevators to AirTrain at Howard Beach. Travel time from Canal St. to Howard Beach is around 45 minutes, 15 minutes from Howard Beach to T7, AirTrain runs every 10 minutes. Subway is $2.25 and $5 for AirTrain. For the three of you consider taking a taxi; flat fare $45+tolls+tip for all of you, no stairs, no turnstiles.

Arriving in JFK next week...I need to get to Penn Station. From the map it looks like I take AirTrain to the Jamaica Station. Then take the LIRR to Penn Station.

I want to confirm travel is correct. Also, how much does the LIRR cost to Penn Station?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

That is correct, AirTrain fare is $5, LIRR fare is $8.75 peak/$6.25 off peak. You can also take the E subway ($2.25) from Jamaica to 34th St/Penn Station but will take twice as long as LIRR.

my self and my husband are arriving with AA4145 from CMH in Terminal 8 at 02pm connecting with LH401 to FRA in Terminal 1 departing at 0340 pm we will have 4pcs of luggage. kindly adv flwg:
1. Is connection time ok
2. how to reach terminal 1 from terminal 8 with 4 pcs of luggage.

thank you

You have a tight connection, just hope your flight from CMH is on time. Take AirTrain on track 2 from T8 to T1, you can rent a luggage cart and take on AirTrain between terminals. Check with LH regarding check-in cutoff times.

I'll be arriving at JFK & need to know how often the Airtrain runs from JFK to Brooklyn, what terminal I need to board & what the fare will be.

AirTrain only runs from terminals to the transit centers at Howard Beach Station (A subway) and Jamaica Station (LIRR, E & J subways). Cost is $5 and you will take the train on track 1 to either transit center. Where in Brooklyn is your destination? You can reach various parts of Brooklyn from either transit center. LIRR runs along Atlantic Ave (stops at East New York and Nostrand Ave) to Atlantic Center at Atlantic & Flatbush Aves. where you can transfer to just about every major subway line, the A subway runs along Fulton St. to downtown Brooklyn, J subway runs along Broadway to Williamsburg.

Thanks for the info B2G. I just discovered I will need to take care of some business in NYC before heading for Brooklyn. Would you happen to know what subway stations are closest to East 53rd & Madison in NYC and Sutter Ave in Brooklyn?

What's the street address on Sutter Ave? It runs a ways eastbound from Brownsville, through East New York and into Queens. There a Sutter Ave. stop on the L subway at Van Sinderin Ave, or the Sutter Ave. stop on the #3 subway at Rutland Rd/E 98th St in Brownsville. From 53rd & Madison: for the #3 subway walk to Rockefeller Center and take the Coney Island-bound D subway to Atlantic Ave and transfer to the New Lots Ave-bound #3 to Sutter Ave. For the L subway take the same D subway as above to 14th St and transfer for the Canarsie-bound L subway to Sutter Ave. If you give me the street address I can narrow down the subway route for you.
