Depending on traffic the shuttle takes about 90 minutes, public transportation could be 90 minutes to 2 hours.

Cheapest is by AirTrain/subway: take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to E subway to 42nd St/Port Authority, total cost is $7.25. You can also take the NYAirports bus from terminal for $15.

Inquire at Ground Transportation about van service as taxi will only take a maximum of 4 persons. Taxi would be on the meter and cost around $50 however van service may cost a little more but is most cost-effective for 5 people to share. The other option is by AirTrain/train/subway: take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station ($5), take LIRR to Atlantic Terminal-Brooklyn (@$8), transfer to D, N, or R subway ($2.25) to 36th St, hotel is three blocks away at 4th Ave and 39th St.
