Anything abowe 60 km/hour (40mph) might be reason to flight cancellation.

Are there general criteria
Are there general criteria for the circumstances under which JFK will be closed? For example, if winds exceed X miles per hour, that is the moment planes will be grounded? I'm anxious about an 8:30 PM Saturday departure. Our airline has refused to offer us a change in itinerary without a change fee that costs much more than the ticket value, so I'm very nervous about this!
