Terminal 4 Facts and Figures
The $1.4 billion T4 opened in May 2001. It is the cornerstone of a $10.3 billion revitalization program currently underway at JFK.
T4 is a model for air terminal technology for the 21st century.
T4 has signed agreements with approximately 50 airlines representing 40 countries, serving U.S. and overseas destinations around the world.
T4 occupies 165 acres, one of the largest properties of any terminal at JFK and is one of the largest air terminals in North America.
T4 was designed with the infrastructure to process between 10 million - 12 million passengers annually.
T4 operates the only facility at JFK's with 24 hour Customs and Border Protection, 365 days per year.
T4 houses the only internal station for AirTrain, JFK's light rail system connecting all JFK terminals, Long Term parking, Car rental and hotel locations, The NYC subway at Howard Beach and the LIRR at Jamaica Station.
T4 is home to 4 religious chapels- Catholic, Protestant, Jewish and Multi-faith, each with a dedicated Chaplain.

Custom & immigration between Terminal 8 & Terminal 4
I am arriving AA from Canada at JFK Terminal 8 at 1:10 PM. I only have carry-on bags, no check-in bags. I need to connect flight at Terminal 4 Air India at 3 PM.
(a) Since this is a transit situation just for connecting flights between 2 terminals, do I have to go through security and custom immigration again at Terminal 4 ?
(b) Since I have carry-on bags, how much time is needed to go from Terminal 8 to Terminal 4, if I have to clear custom & immigation, and security again ?
(c) Is there usually a long line for custom & security clearance at Terminal 4 ?

You will only need to clear
You will only need to clear security at T4, you will clear US customs prior to departure at your Canadian airport so no need to clear customs on arrival at JFK. Security lines at T4 are usually pretty long.

Hi, I'm fly from Saigon, Vietnam to Raleight, NC. After stop 1 at Seoul, I will stop 2 in JFK airport at Terminal 4, then leave in Terminal 8 to RDU. I will have 3hr to change airlines. Pls tell me that I have to get my luggages and recheck my luggages in JFK or not? By the way, in the returning trip to Vietnam, I just have 1hr30min to change airlines and change terminal from 1 to 5 in O'Hare Airport, is it possible for me to change terminal and planes in a short time like that? and I have to check out and check in luggages in ORD? pls help me, thank you so much.

TrYing to plan a trip
We are booked on an Aer Lingus flight that arrives at terminal 4 at 1:15pm. I need to book a fight from JFK to LAX. There is a Virgin America flight at 4:55pm. Is this enough time to get our luggage, clear customs, recheck our luggage and make this flight.
