Immigration procedures
Hi ,
My wife and I are arriving in JFK on a DV immigrant visa from Ghana. We are first timers and we are going to Washington Dulles. Could you please brief us on the immgration procedures at the JFK airport. We also wanted to find out whether we can carry along our favourite skin creams and deodorants. Can we also bring along some foodsuffs like hot pepper sauce and Gari cerealike flour made from Cassava to the USA? Thank you

You will spend some time in immigration - nothing to worry about - it is usual procedure for first time green card holders.
Generally, all fruits, plants, fresh vegetables and raw meats are prohibited from importation due to the possibility of introducing pests or diseases into the USA. Most processed foods, cooked meats, bakery items and canned foods are permitted.

Connection flight
Dear,
This is our first time to travel to USA. We'll be arriving to JFK airport from MCT (Muscat, Oman) via Etihad airways on July 20th at 1630 then we have a connecting flight to MCO (orlando)by Delta at 1935. My question is:
a) will our bags go directly to orlando, or do we have to recheck them again, if so, then how?
b) is the time efficient enough for us to catch our connecting flight?

a:) you have to claim your bags after you arrive on Etihad in order for you to go through US customs. Then you can either re-check them in at Etihad Connecting flights counter(they will actually transfer the bags over to Delta's flight) or take them with you to Delta and re-check them in there.
b.) You have plenty of time to transfer.

Delta Terminal
Hi JFK_Employee,I see you posted lot of useful posts. I made a travel by emirates and Delta through JFK on APr 20th. After Customs i dropped the bags at Terminal 3 north gate and we flew from there to BWI (1 hr flight). We are missing one bag. Delta is unable to locate the bag in the system saying bag wasnt scanned. DO you have any idea how these things work.. once its on belt. when do they take it to the right flight. is it possible the bag didnt get scanned entering the flight and got on wrong flight... or if the tag came off where does t go.. i went to jfk and searched in delta lost and found. no luck. appreciate your comments. Most likely the bag ended up at wrong destination. Keep checking with Delta , eventually they have to scan it once they realize it is at wrong place.
If the tag comes off then you should look for the bag in Delta Lost&Found.

Hallo, I'm an italian girl flying to the states over the summer.
On my way back I'm arriving, from denver, to Newark (with continental
airlines) at 16.10 and will have to catch the connection for Milan at 19.20 in JFK (flying with alitalia).
I have two questions:
1-Since I'm flying with 2 different airline companies (booked on-line from lastminute.com), is my luggage flying directly to milan or am i supposed to get it and check-in, at JFK again?
2-What is the fastest way to get from Newark to JFK? will I make it on time?

Hi Francesca,
1. You have to get your bags from Newark Airport and check them in again at JFK.
2. The fastest way from Newark to JFK is a taxi(~$80-$90).
You don't have that much time so my suggestion is take a taxi as soon as you get your bags.

Baggage inquiry
Dear all,
This is the first time for me to travel to USA. therefore i would like to know the following, if you could help me please;
I am trveling from MCT to JFK by Etihad Airways then to MCO (Orlando)by Delta Airways, therefore will my bags arrive directly to Orlando or should i recheck it again in JFK. If i have to recheck it again will 3 hours will be enough for me to do all that, as i am not familiar with the airport!

My sister is transfering overseas are there restaurants that I can meet her at during her 4 hour layover?

Not at Terminal 3 - their food court is behind security checkpoint. You can have her exit the terminal and go to nearby Terminal 4 where there are restaurants accessible to everybody.
