ICAO code - KJFK
Operated by - The airport has been operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey under a lease with New York City since 1947.

History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

Having travelled out of JFK
Having travelled out of JFK on Wednesday 26th May after a most enjoyable visit to New York I have to comment that the baggage handler on duty was the most rudest and unhelpful person I encountered on the whole trip. By comparison the young woman who checked me in was extremely pleasant, well mannered and a credit to the airport.
Transfer times between JFK and LGA including customs clearance
I'm considering booking a flight from LHR that arrives @ JFK at terminal 7 at 19:50, I'm a Canadian citizen and would have to clear international customs. I'm then considering booking at flight out of LGA at 21:45. I would grab a taxi to transfer between JFK and LGA. Would 1 hr and 55 min be enough time to clear customs at JFK, transfer to LGA and make the connection at 21:45?
re:Transfer times between JFK and LGA including customs clearanc
It should be OK as long as the flight from LHR is on time. Customs clearance shouldn't take more than 30 min and the taxi from JFK to LGA is about 15-20 min(no traffic at that time).

Would you think it is
Would you think it is possible to transfer from two terminals of JFK to take these two flights ?
The first is VX 0404 and lands at J.F.K Int. (Terminal 4), 15 august 15:40, and the second is Finnair OYJ, Flight 6, which departs at 17:40.
Are two hours considered sufficient to retrieve the luggage, go through the customs, transfer to the other terminal and check in for the 2nd flight before it closes ?
As I booked the two tickets separately, I do not think I can have my luggage transfered directly from one plane to the other.
Thanks for taking the time to read my question
re: Would you think it is possible to transfer from two terminal
Finnair departs out of terminal 8. Usually two hours is enough as long as VX is not late.
Check with VX if they can check all your bags through so you don't have to pick them up at JFK. It does not matter if you book the two tickets separately - just show the second ticket to VX agents in LAX. Again, it depends if VX and Finnair have a baggage transfer agreement.

Transfer to the E subway, get off at Lexington/53rd St. and transfer to the downtown #6 subway to Grand Central/42nd St. You can also take the NYAS bus from your terminal to Grand Central however it may stop running after 11pm.
