I arrive from Miami (Delta)at 5.59pm & depart JFK (Delta) to LAX 6.30pm. Delta assure me this is sufficient time as I will have my boarding pass all the way through to LAX from Miami & my bags don't need collecting. I am still concerned though because if I miss this plane I will miss my flight LAX to Sydney (Delta), Any comments? thanks. Are the arrival/departure gates close together? Would I need to go through another security check?

You don't have to go through security again - just look for gate number for your flight to LAX. If everything goes by schedule you should be OK. But again, this is JFK and delays are very common.

Hello,
We are arriving to the terminal 1 from Rome at 18pm and we have to change for the terminal 3 for the second flight for Boston at 20pm.
Could you please advise us if it seems you possible to pass the controls and to make the change having less than 2 hours and what is the fastest way to do it?
Thank you in advance.

Les than two hours for transfer at JFK is kind of tight.
As soon as you exit the customs at Terminal 1 look for Connecting flight counter; transfer your bags there.
Exit the building and walk to your right to the next building, Terminal 2. That is also Delta building and you can enter it and get to Terminal 3 since both of them are connected.

I am arriving 4th March from Frankfurt to JFK terminal 1 at 13:20 and have my second flight to Miami from Terminal 3 at 16:25.
Can you please advice how do I get from terminal 1 to terminal 3 in a fastest way&
Thank you!

As soon as you exit Terminal 1 make right and walk to Terminal 2, It is 5 min walk and you can check in( or go through security if you have your boarding pass already) at T2 since this is also Delta building. Terminal 2 and 3 are connected so finding your gate at T3 won't be a big hustle.

Take the free AirTrain, it'll only take a few minutes from terminal 1 to 3.

Thank you!

At JFK, I need to connect to Luxair for a flight to Zurich. What terminal does Luxair fly from please?
thanks, - Will

Can a foreigner departing from JFK to abroad get tax refund from items bought in NY, specially high-priced electronics and clothings? If yes, how and where? Regards

No, tax refund is not available in US. The practice stopped years ago.

Dear,

My name is Didier Pinçon, i'm French and Today, I have a request for you: Do you have in your archives photos about Avianca 747 HK-2910X at JFK? , I know this aircraft came many times in JFK airport beetween August 1982 to November 1983. I have a very particular and sad story with this plane, and it is the reason I’m looking for photos about her.

I will explain you why I have a special story with the Avianca 747 HK-2910X .

At the time, Saturday, November 26th, I was working at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport in a luxurious restaurant whose name is “Maxim’s”. it was a very nice restaurant, where we were welcoming VIPs, first class passengers and crews when the flights were not yet arrived, delayed or very late.

This day was a Saturday. Avianca flight 010 was arriving in the afternoon like every Saturday, from Bogota, Caracas, Madrid before to go to Frankfurt, his final destination before the return flight.

The return flight from Frankfurt was normal but we did receive a phone call from the Avianca airport office. They told us the flight will be a little bit late from Frankfurt, so please prepare a meal for all the first class passengers, the economy passengers were welcome in another restaurant just near our restaurant.

So we were welcoming the first class passengers of AV 011 before their flight to Madrid, Caracas and Bogota. At this time in our beautiful restaurant, we had a usual practice: offer a porcelain ahs-tray from “Maxim’s” of Paris to the pleasant persons.

This saturday night, we meet some very nice Colombian persons and we had for a short time a nice time with them, so as they were very cool, we were offering them some Maxim’s ash-tray like a souvenir. Some minutes later, someone from the Avianca office came in our restaurant and told them the plane is arriving from Frankfurt with only about 30 minutes late so please come to the gate area to board in the 747.

I went to the boarding gate with these nice persons and I wished them to have a good flight to home. After that , the door of the 747 was closed and everybody said bye, bye. The 747 leaved the gate, then went to the runway and took off to Madrid.

The day after, Sunday morning, like every day, when I woke up before to go to my work at the airport, I listened at the radio and I heard the plane crashed some minutes before landing at Madrid-Barajas airport, so only 2 hours after we said them bye bye.

I throught: it was impossible! But when I was arriving at the airport, all was very sad and early in the morning our airport was in black.
I’m one of the last persons to have see the passengers in life, and I think about them every day since 1983..

I was very touched by this accident, and since I often have flashs in my head about these persons. I’m very sad and I still don’t know exactly what happened. They are in my heart forever. My passion for Avianca started some years early, but I think this event started a love story between Avianca and me, I know it is curious.

Today, I try to obtain all the photos I can find about this 747( no photo from web sites), and mainly photos taken on the airports that this plane was landing on, but it is very difficult.

So if you have photos about this plane or if you know some persons who could have take photos about this plane at JFK airport, do you accept to help me to obtain scans of them please?

I thank you very much. Kind regards Didier

Hi Didier,
I read your story and it was very, very touching.
