JFK International Airport AirTrain

AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK
International Airport, Long Island Rail Road trains and New York City Subway.
It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.

Air Train JFK has
3 routes:

  • Howard Beach route

The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.

Connecting transit services: A subway train, Q11 bus

  • Jamaica Station route

The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn
and Manhattan or Queens).

Connecting transit services: E, J and Z subway
trains, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q20A, Q20B, Q25/Q34, Q30, Q31, Q40, Q43, Q44, Q60  and
Q65 buses

Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.

  • Airline Terminal route

The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,
4, 5-6, 7 and 8-9). Route operates in the opposite direction, making a clockwise
loop.
All JFK AirTrain stations are wheelchair accessible. Howard Beach subway and
Jamaica Long Island Railroad stations are wheelchair accessible too.

Take AirTrain to Jamaica Station and transfer to either E subway to 34th St/Penn Station or LIRR (faster but more expensive) to Penn Station, walk two blocks north to W. 35th St. Depending on your location address it could be anywhere between 5th Ave and continue 12th Ave.

How do I get from the free hotel shuttles to terminal 4 ?

Hi there. arriving at JFK on Thursday morning. What would be the correct train connections from JFK to final destination (121 West 28th street - zip 10001)?
Thank you in advance

Take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to E subway to 42nd St, transfer to downtown #1 subway to 28th St and walk east about a 1/2 block, OR take LIRR from Jamaica to Penn Station and walk down 7th Ave about four short blocks to 28th St and turn left.

AirTrain to Jamaica Station. Then, Manhattan-bound "E" subway to Queens Plaza station. Transfer to a Manhattan-bound "R" subway (on the adjacent local track). Take the "R" to 28th Street/Broadway station. Walk west on 28th Street to your destination, which should be just a block or two away from the subway station.

Note: If getting a seat on the "R" train is important to you, then consider transferring to the "R" at Continental Avenue/Forest Hills station, instead of at Queens Plaza. This can add about 15 minutes to your travel time since the "R" runs local and the "E" runs express, but since the "R" begins its run at Continental Avenue, you are virtually guaranteed getting a seat if you make the transfer there.

You should be able to obtain a free subway map at the Ground Transportation/Information desk in your terminal at JFK, or at the subway booth at Jamaica, just before you pass through the turnstiles. And at 28th Street station in Manhattan, the subway booth attendant should be able to provide you with a free Manhattan bus map.

arriving @ jfk tonight 8:50.can anyone tell me the best way for me to get to grand central? train? taxi? thanks

Hi there,

An answer to your question has been posted on the main page of this website.

HI, I would like to ask, I fly to terminal 8 and I have next international flight. How can I get from terminal 8 to check-in or where is it?

Take Airtrain on track 2 from T8 to all other terminals.

Hi, can anyone please tell me how to use the Airtrain from JFK to Brooklyn, and how much is it? Thanks

For $5.00/person, the AirTrain can take you to the Howard Beach subway station, where you can connect (for an additional $2.25) to the Manhattan-bound "A" subway, which can take you to Brooklyn.

There is also a local bus, the B-15, which travels from JFK Terminal 4 to Brooklyn. Bus fare is $2.25/person, with a free transfer to the subway (if needed) if you use a Metrocard to pay the bus fare.

Where in Brooklyn do you want to go?

Hi, and thanks for your reply. I eed to get to Lawrence Street. I kind of googled it and think that the nearest station is Jay St - Metrotech so will be most grateful if you can confirm this is correct and also the easiest way of getting there. Thankyou

There is a "Lawrence Street" stop on the "R" train, but coming from the airport, you would take the "A" train to Jay Street. Take AirTrain to Howard Beach station; then board a Manhattan-bound "A" train for the 30-minute ride to Jay Street.

You can also find a very good trip planner at www.mta.info.

Thankyou for your info and help. I have noted this down and will follow these directions accordingly - thanks once again.
