History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

As long as you have a boarding pass or gate pass you can clear security, leave and re-enter. If you are not flying, unless you are able to get a gate pass from the airline, you will not be able to clear security.
Baby food
I`m flying from JFK to Moscow with 15 months old baby. Can I take a baby food on the plane? How much? And how should I go with it through the security?

You can only take what you
You can only take what you need for the trip. At security take all baby food and baby liquids out of your bags and put in the xray bin, and alert the TSA folks that you have baby food items. They will probably so some additional screening on these items.
Luggage fast drop
HI i am flying back to london from new york then onto edinburgh all with BA on 6th june. i am booking in all the way through online and wanted to check if there is a fast drop for my luggage as this is also booked straight through on line or do i have to queue at the BA desk? many thanks. Polly.
Getting from JFK to EWR
I have been searching all afternoon looking for a public transportation option to get from JFK airport to EWR airport. Is there any way to do this?
State Shuttle has service
State Shuttle has service between airports for around $30. Inquire at Ground Transportation counter when you arrive for schedule. You can also get their by train; JFK AirTrain from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to LIRR to Penn Station, transfer to NJ Transit train to EWR station, Newark AirTrain from there to terminals.
12 hour in transit
Hi,
I will be arriving at JFK on the 11th of June at 7 pm and then flying til Dominican Republic at the 12 og June at 7 am. Can i stay at the airport for 12 hours in transit, or do i have to get a hotel?

Checking through JFK
I have clients flying through JFK to Portland Maine from South Africa. They have flown through Atlanta before and know the drill there , but are very unsure of JFK . They arrive at terminal 4 and connet on Jet Blue out of terminal 5. 1) Can she check her baggage through to Portland . 2) Is there a desk that she can put her luggage through, without re-checking in at terminal 5. How does she get from Terminal 4 to terminal 5? thanking you M

1&2)Have them ask their airline from South Africa to JFK; if their bags are tagged through to Portland they can drop them at the connecting flights counter after they exit customs at T4, otherwise they will need to re-check the bags with JetBlue at T5.
3)Go to AirTrain on third floor of T4 and take train on track 1 one stop to T5.

You can bring baby formula
You can bring baby formula however you must let the security screeners know that you have baby formula, remove from your bag and put it in the xray bin separately from other items, and it will be subject to additional screening.
