YOUR MOM'S TRIP FROM BRAZIL
Hi Ed, I just stumbled across this page and thought maybe i could help -- why don't you call the airlines? I imagine they would help you out. They must have a portuguese speaking person around (after all, they're flying in from Brazil). I am optimistic someone will be there to meet her and explain what she needs to do. I believe you will be allowed to meet her at the luggage carosel, but i am not positive; there is no security once you have landed, so that will not be an issue in NY. (the security is prior to flying, in Brazil). good luck! Peggy

You will *not* be able to
You will *not* be able to meet her at the baggage carousel as that's still on the "secure" side of customs. You can only greet her after she clears immigration, collects her bags and passes through the customs declaration area and emerges into the reception hall.

Gates
Your gate is only assigned on the day of departure. As long as you go to the right terminal (noted on your itinerary), you're all set.

Hi! I will have to transit at the JFK airport, specifically from terminal 1 to terminal 3. The problem is that I will have to carry many big luggages by myself while my wife is taking care of my two babies. I wonder if any form of porter service is available at the airport. Thank you in advance for your information.
