We want to go from NYC to Palmyra. Is the best option renting a car, driving through unfamiliar territory or is there some kind of shuttle, etc. that would be available?

Take the Shuttle Bus from JFK to Penn Station. Then you can take the Amtrak Train fro Penn Station to new London or Hartford(Different trains) depending where y9ou are going.

You can have the door to door Shuttle pick you up. You want to be picked up by 1:00 PM because you want to be at the airport by at least 2 and 1/2 hours before you fly with Security and all. Plus the door to door shuttle picks other people up. Better to be safe than late.
