How far is from terminal 9 to terminal 1?
How many minutes it will take me walking?
I will arrive in American Airline but I have just 2 hours to my next flight in terminal 1. I'm not sure if I will have plenty of time.

There is no Terminal 9 at JFK(anymore). AA is at Terminal 8. There is no way to walk between T8 and T1(there is a highway between). Take Airtrain on the second floor of T8 on track 2 to Terminal 1 . It will take you ~10 min to get there. The train is free between terminals.
Two hours is enough time to make the transfer.

Where to meet someone at Terminal 1
Hello,
I am flying into Terminal 1 from Austria at 14:15 and my friend is flying into Terminal 9 at 14:30 with American Airlines.
I can't see much about Terminal 9 here? I assume the best place for us to meet would be Terminal 1. Do you know of a good meeting point that you can suggest where we can meet?
Is there a shop or cafe at Terminal 1 that my friend could wait at directly near the arrivals gate?

Yes , there is cafe shop at Terminal 1 , arrivals level(first floor) where you can meet each other.
Terminal 9 does not exist at JFK - it is Terminal 8 that AA is flying in/out.

Thanks, is there just one cafe there? can you immediately see it as you walk out after customs into the arrivals hall. Would I turn right or left?

After you exit is to the left(in front of Hotel Reservation desk). It is called "Hudson News".

terminal 1 to 3
Hi,
I will be arriving at JFK terminal 1 with Alitalia and need to take a flight from terminal 3 to go to St Louis. The tickets have been booked together on the Delta Air Line web site, but the two flights are operated by different companies. I will have 3 hours and 30 min layover time (I have J-1 visa and it is the first time I come to USA with this visa). WIll 3.30h be enough?
Will I need to collect my luggage and pass throught the check in again?

You have to collect you bags in order to pass US customs at T1. Then you can either:
-transfer them at Connecting Flights Counter at T1 or
-take them with you and re-check them in at Delta check-in counter at T3.
Three hours and half is enough for you to transfer(even you are first time in USA and have J1 visa)

my parents were on their Lufthansa flight (i think LH 405 ) from NY JFK to Frankfurt, Germany, but had to return to JFK due to the vulcano...incident in Ireland.
Is there any information available when international flights to Germany will continue or if flights will be redirected to open airports in western europe?

Please inform on vip-lounge presence in the terminal 1. Unfortunately, I have not found the information on it.
We arrive from Miami by Delta and then we ll depart to Moscow.How to get from the terminal 3 to the terminal 1?

There are VIP lounges at T1 owned by the different airlines. I do believe(although I am not 100% sure ) Aeroflot has one as well.
Take Airtrain across the street from T3 on track 2 and get off next stop at T1.

My flight
I am am arriving into JFK in Terminal 4 and my next flight is in terminal one. Since I will be arriving from the UAE I will have to get my luggage and go back though customs to go to Gate 1? Will the customs be in Terminal 1 or do I go somewhere else? And by the map I am seeing it looks like the Terminals aren't connected so would there be a shuttle that I can take? Where would I catch the shuttle? This is my first time flying by myself and I only have a 3 hour layover so I want to make up I understand everything.

You clear customs and immigration at T4. Then take Airtrain on the third floor on track 2 to Terminal 1. At terminal 1 you have to go only through security check.
