Hi my parents are travelling to jkf on 22 May 2010 arriving at 13.35 with delta at terminal 3. Their connecting flight leaves for Ft Lauderdale at 15.55 also with delta and terminal 3. Do they have to id their luggage and bring the luggage to a check in desk even though they will be checked straight through to Fort Lauderdale from Ireland? Can you also tell me if they have to clear immigration in JFK before or after they claim their luggage? They are nervous of getting lost.

They will go through immigration, pick up their bags, go through US customs and then they can re-check(transfer) the luggage at connecting flights counter(which is right after customs). Everything that takes place at Terminal 3.

Hi,
I'm landing at 19:00pm arriving from kef(Iceland). Will I have enough time to transit to the AA flight 955 to Argentina leaving at 10:15pm?

And to be certain, AA terminal is #8, correct? (I only get the information:gate 6 on my itinerary). If so, how do I get there?!?

Thanks in advance.

You have plenty of time. You will land at T7 and AA is at T8. Cross the streets and go upstairs for Airtrain - take it on track 1 and get off next stop(1 min free ride) - that would be T8.

Hi there, I'm flying into to LGA at 6pm. Then I have a connecting flight at JFK at 9:25pm going to FRA. (sneaky website, didn't point out that the flight booked was between 2 NY airports ) Anyway, I was told I need to be at the airport 2-3 hours for the JFK-FRA flight as it's International. Is that correct? Also, how long will it take to get from LGA-JFK by public transport, any suggestions? THANKS!!!

For international flight you have to be at JFK 2-3 hours prior to departure - that is correct.
Your schedule will be to tight with public transportation though. From LGA you have to take a bus(Q33) to the subway station(Roosevelt Ave), then subway E (direction Jamaica Queens)to Sutphin Blvd stop and then transfer to Airtrain to JFK(all that for $7.25 and ~1hr travel time).
There is a direct bus(called NYAS - New York Airport Service) that goes between the two airports every 30 min. It costs $13 and it takes 20-30 min to get from LGA to JFK.
Taxi(yellow cab) is another option - it will charge you on the meter(~$25-$33)and the travel time is also 20-30min(depending on the traffic conditions).

We are coming from NJ to pick up relatives arriving on Aerlingus Flight #109 from Dublin, on Wednesday evening. Where is the best short term handicapped parking? Which terminal and gate? Thank you.

The best parking in your case will be Blue parking lot - there are handicapped spots. Once in the parking lot, drive as close as possible to the terminal and you will see those spots.
Aer Lingus is located at Terminal 4.

As of 10.30 CET on 11 May 2010, EUROCONTROL has the following update to make with regard to the situation of air traffic in Europe:

Today EUROCONTROL expects approximately 29,000 flights within the European area which is close to normal for a Tuesday at this time of year.

Areas of high ash concentration are this morning impacting southern and central Spain and Portugal including the Canary Islands and Madeira. The areas of high ash concentration on high altitudes in the middle of the North Atlantic is dispersing, easing the previously difficult situation for Trans Atlantic flights.

At the current time airports on the Canary Islands, some in south-west Spain and some in Morocco are closed. According to the forecasts, during the afternoon, areas of higher ash concentration could move in a north-easterly direction cutting across the Iberian Iberian Peninsula and into south east France. These areas are of high altitude and are not expected to impact airports. The latest ‘Air Ash Concentration Charts’, valid at 14.00CET describing those areas where no-fly zone proposals have been made to the EUROCONTROL Member States are attached.

On Monday 10 May, there were 29,155 flights within the EUROCONTROL CFMU area, which is not far from normal traffic levels.

At the same time, ongoing work by the UK Met Office and the UK CAA has confirmed the effectiveness of the model used to determine the areas where ash concentration could be above engine tolerance levels. For that reason, as from noon today, the 60 nautical mile ‘Buffer Zone’ which was initially added to the proposed no-fly zone will be omitted. Work will continue between aircraft operators, Service Providers, the London Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre to refine the model used for predicting ash dispersion.

With kind regards,

AMS int.
