JFK International Airport AirTrain

AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK
International Airport, Long Island Rail Road trains and New York City Subway.
It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.

Air Train JFK has
3 routes:

  • Howard Beach route

The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.

  • Jamaica Station route

The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn

Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.

  • Airline Terminal route

The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,

Here are some of most common options that you have in this case:
1. Taxi(the fast and easy one)
Yellow cab (from JFK to any point to Manhattan) costs flat rate of $45 + bridge toll($5.50). The price is for the whole taxi, not per passenger.

2. Public(the cheap one)
Take Airtrain from any terminal on track 1 to Jamaica Station( be careful - on that track there are two alternating trains going to different routes; check the sign above the doors as the train arrives; the red colored sign is Jamaica one). Then take subway line E to 42nd street stop. Cost-$7.25/passenger.

3. Shuttle
There is shuttle(look for it at Ground transportation
counter or Welcome Center) that goes to any hotel in Manhattan for $18.50 per person.

4. Express Bus
NYAS(New York Airport Service) bus will take you express to Times Square for $15/passenger. The bus leaves every 20 min in front of each JFK terminal. You can buy tickets on the bus or from their representative in front of the terminal.

Hi. What is the best way to take from JFK airport to Grand central station in Manhattan by train? Thanks.

Take Airtrain from any terminal on track 1 to Jamaica Station( be careful - on that track there are two alternating trains going on two different routes; check the sign above the doors as the train arrives; the red colored sign is Jamaica one). Then take subway line E to 53rd street/Lexington Ave stop, then transfer to line 6 going downtown for one stop(cost-$7.25).

I flying on Sunday and was wondering is 1 hour and 15 minutes long enough to get from terminal 4 to terminal 8? I won't be collecting or checking in any luggage. And what the best way to do it? Thanks.

It is enough. Take Airtrain on the third level of T4 on any track. T8 is three stops away.

Thanks a million, you're a star.

Hi I need to pick up a friend arriving from Miami (American Airlines flight) at JFK this saturday night. What would be the easiest way to get to JFK from Manhattan if the closest station to me is the 7th Ave station...

Thanks!!

Take subway E towards Jamaica,Queens to Sutphin Blvd. Station and transfer to Airtrain.

Hi,
I'm planning to spend 9 hours out of JFK airport. I would like to go for a sight seeing tour where the starting point will be 7th avenue, near Times Square.
1) Please tell me how to go to that place via Airtrain.
2) Where to buy the tickets?
3) How long will it take to reach there?
I will be starting from Terminal 4 after keeping my luggage at luggage storage area.
This is going to be my first time at New york!

you can do either of 2 things:
1. Purchase an all day unlimited metro card ($7), and travel via subway... Take the air train to Jamaica, head down the elevator and take the "E" line subway to 42nd street (Times Square). If you arrive in the morning or early in the day, the ride is express and it should take you approximately 40 mins to get there.
2. Purchase a metro card from a vending machine, and take the airtrain to Jamaica, then take the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station. From Penn Station, you can either walk to 42nd OR take the "A" "C" "E", "1", "2", or "3" train to 42nd street. that should take you about 15-20 mins, as the LIRR is A WHOLE LOT FASTER than the subway is.

Happy Travelling

I will be arriving to JFK on Saturday morning (10:30am), June 19th and need to get to Greenport, NY. What would be the best way to get there? Bus, Train, Taxi? All three? Any help would be great.

You can take Airtrain from your terminal to Jamaica Station and then LIRR to Greenport. There are only two trains on Saturday to Greenport so the next available train that day is the 2:38pm departure from Jamaica to Ronkonkoma where you transfer for the train to Greenport and arrive at 5:05pm. Cost for Airtrain and LIRR is about $20. Since Greenport is way out at the end of the North Fork of Long Island taxi and shuttle van would be pretty expensive, over $100. Take the train!
