History - Construction of the airport began in 1942 with modest ambitions. Only 1,000 acres (4 km²) of land on the site of Idlewild golf course were earmarked for use. The golf course provided the airport's original namesake, Idlewild Airport. First commercial flights began on July 1, 1948. The airport was formally dedicated as New York International Airport on July 31, 1948. It was re-dedicated on December 24, 1963 as John F. Kennedy International Airport, following action of the Mayor and Council of the City of New York, and a resolution of the Commissioners of the Port Authority. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, JFK was one of the first airports in the United States to be temporarily closed.

I will be flying from JFK on early mornking 6:50 am, is the airport open for check in on 4:50 am? is the airport open 24 hours or there are certain period of time airport will close and not allow to go in?

If your flight is at 6:50am then the airline(resp. the terminal) should be open at least at 4:30-5:00am.

I arrive around 8pm from London...I leave around 7:30am... Can I simply read at the airport over night or do I have to leave and find a hotel. Thank you, jeannie

You can do that at T4 - the terminal is open 24/7.

I have to pick up daughter and her children at JFK. She is on Delta Flight 85 and will arrive 6:16 AM. I have not been able to establish where she will come in, I have only been told at terminal 2, 3 or 4. Could you please tell me what terminal the plane will arrive at.

Check either at Hotel Reservation desks or at Travelex - they both sell them in $5, $10 and $20 value cards.
