JFK International Airport AirTrain
AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK
International Airport, Long Island Rail Road trains and New York City Subway.
It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.
Air Train JFK has
3 routes:
- Howard Beach route
The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.
Connecting transit services: A subway train, Q11 bus
- Jamaica Station route
The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn
and Manhattan or Queens).
Connecting transit services: E, J and Z subway
trains, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q20A, Q20B, Q25/Q34, Q30, Q31, Q40, Q43, Q44, Q60 and
Q65 buses
Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.
- Airline Terminal route
The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,
4, 5-6, 7 and 8-9). Route operates in the opposite direction, making a clockwise
loop.
All JFK AirTrain stations are wheelchair accessible. Howard Beach subway and
Jamaica Long Island Railroad stations are wheelchair accessible too.

Hi! My aunt is arriving from Rome with Delta to terminal 3 and leaving from terminal 8 with American Airlines to Argentina, which are the best ways to travel from terminal 3 to terminal 8? She is carring 2 big luggages... Thank you in advance for your help.
Take Airtrain on track 1
Take Airtrain on track 1 from terminal 3 to terminal 8. She can rent a luggage cart when she arrives, they are allowed on Airtrain.
If your aunt has her baggage
If your aunt has her baggage checked through she would only have to pick up her baggage at terminal 3 customs, clear customs, then drop them off at a special baggage drop-off point located right after clearing customs. The baggage will transfer automatically to her connecting flight from at terminal 8. I'm asuming your aunt is flying Delta from Rome and then American to Argentina. Even though these are different airlines, the baggage can still transfer through a so-called interline system used by airlines at most airports. She will only have to travel on the AirTrain with her CARRY-ON baggage ONLY. If the airline wont let check her luggage all the way through, I suggest she INSISTS on them checking them through while checking in at Rome or wherever she's starting her journey. Lastly, even though her final destination is out of the US, she will still need to pick up her bags at customs at JFK but like I said before, she will be able to drop them off after clearing customs before she boards the AirTrain to terminal 8. Take NYAS express bus from
Take NYAS express bus from terminal, or Airtrain from terminal to Jamaica Station and then either LIRR or E subway to Penn Station. At Penn Station you can take Amtrak Northeast Regional or Acela (more expensive but faster) train to DC, or on street level you can take the Megabus, Vamoose Bus or Bolt Bus to DC. Bus is much cheaper than train.

You have a number of
You have a number of options:
Taxi is $45+tolls+tip and takes about 45 minutes+ depending on traffic.
NYAS express bus is $15, same time as above.
Subway E from Jamaica Station is $2.25, takes about one hour.
Long Island RR from Jamaica Station is $8 peak/$5.75 off peak, train has overhead luggage racks and is faster than subway, takes about 20 minutes.
Airtrain to Jamaica Station is $5, takes about 15 minutes.
My suggestion is LIRR, if your timing is good on the Airtrain and LIRR you could go from terminal to Penn Station in about 45 minutes.

Airtrain is on the 3rd floor of T4, take Airtrain on track 1 marked "Jamaica Station". At Jamaica Station take the E subway to Roosevelt Ave/Jackson Hgts, transfer there to the inbound #7 subway to Queensboro Plaza, transfer there to the Astoria-bound N or Q subway to last stop-Ditmars Blvd. Airtrain cost is $5, subway cost is $2.25, you can purchase a regular pay-per-ride Metrocard at Jamaica Station for any amount and use as needed for Airtrain, subway or bus.
