We're arriving in JFK from
We're arriving in JFK from Montreal on Thursday Dec 23rd at 1:55PM (Arriving at Terminal 8 Gate 32G) our connecting flight is at 3:35PM (From Terminal 8 as well). I've heard that sometimes the times are very tight when switching flights but since we are departing from the same terminal will we be ok? Will we have to go through any sort of security again? Also will our luggage have enough time to get transferred?

You will clear US customs in Montreal prior to departure to JFK so when you arrive at JFK just go to the gate for your connecting flight, no need to clear security again unless you leave the terminal. Make sure when you check in at Montreal that your bags will be checked through to your final destination.

Use free air train on the
Use free air train on the third floor and it will take you to terminal 3 under 5 minutes.
Take AirTrain on track 2
Take AirTrain on track 2 from T8 to T3, only takes 10 minutes tops.
