1 - You will go through
1 - You will go through immigration, collect your luggage, and then through customs at Terminal 8 which is your arrival point.
2 - As long as you are out of immigration within an hour, I cant' see an issue.
3 - By the sounds of things, because you've booked it all on one ticket, they will get you on the next available flight. LAN airlines will do that, not AA, as it's a codeshare.
4 - As I've said in point 1, you need to collect your luggage when you land. When you check in at LHR, just make sure they are tagging them to your final destination, and when you arrive at T8, there should be somewhere to recheck your luggage quickly, as it is already tagged, however, this I'm not 100% on, as I've not connected flights at JFK.

we arrive at terminal 7, the rest of the family at terminal 4. is it easy to walk from 7 to 4? what is the distance?

Nope. It isn't easy. What is easy though is to get the free airtrain from your arrival terminal, through to Terminal 4. Make sure you get the all terminals loop, which goes from 8 through to 1 in that order.
Connecting flights
Hi, I am looking at a flight from London Heathrow to JFK arriving at 17.40 to Terminal 7 and departing at 20.50 from Terminal 8 for Los Angeles International.
Would I:
a) have time to get to the connecting flight
b) have to check in from the begining, or is there a provision for internation stop-overs?
c) In terms of baggage, would we need to check it in again? It says there is a change of plane and terminal.
The flights are with British Airways.
I would really appreciate a fast response! Thank you :)
PS I'm asking because one time before we had a 2 hour stop over at another US airport, from London going on to LA, and we were delayed by customs and therefore missed our second flight. I REALLY don't want that to happen again!!!
When you check in at LHR,
When you check in at LHR, you'll probably get your bag tagged to LAX, which is your final destination. However, after going through immigration at Terminal 7, you'll pick up your bag, and then go through customs. Once you've done that, you will drop off your bag at the flight connections area, and it'll just go straight on the conveyor.
All in all, this shouldn't really take much more than 1 hour, so say you're out of the terminal by 7pm to be on the safe side. You still have nearly 2 hours.
Follow the signs at the airport for the Airtrain, and get the Airtrain to either Howard Beach or Jamaica, and go 1 stop to Terminal 8. You'll go straight through to security, and board your next flight, which no doubt is a code share with American Airlines.

Transit time
You may help me on the following: I'm travelling from BUD (Hungary) to LAX in August via JFK with AA. My flight arrives at JFK T8 at 3:40 pm and the flight to LAX departures at 4:55 from T8. Is it possible to make it through immigration, baggage claim, customs, baggage drop-off/check in, security in 1 hour and 15 minutes? If I have luck and plane lands 20-30 minutes earlier? I'm not a US citizen. What is the international-domestic legal time at JFK T8?
Thank you in advance.

Connection time
I will be returning from Milan, Italy on American Airlines and landing at JFK on a Sunday at 1:35pm. My flight from from JFK to Boston on Delta (I think that is terminal 3, please verify) leaves at 4:00pm. After reading other comments, it appears that I will have enough time for the connection if there are no delays. My questions are: 1) What is the fastest way to get from one terminal to the next and 2) in the event I do miss my flight, where do I go to find the fastest/cheapest way to get home?
1. Yes it will be terminal
1. Yes it will be terminal 3. From terminal 8 take an air train on track 1 to terminal 3. There are taxi stands outside every terminal and taxi may prove to be fastest.

I need to contact the Duty Free Shop at the American Airlines T8. Does anyone have their phone number? I have been unable to find it on the internet. Thanks for your help!
