I arrive JFK T4 from Dubai and will connect directly to AA flight to Toronto at T8. I am not entering the USA as such, will be carrying only handbags and will most likely be prechecked with a boarding pass for the AA flight. Do I still need to clear US Immigration as I am really transiting to another country. If I must clear immigration, is there a fast track for international to international flights. I hold a Canadian passport.
Thanks for all the suggestions and advise on this.

You must clear US customs at JFK even though you are just transiting through as the US is your first point of entry. No fast track options. After you clear customs go to 3rd floor and take AirTrain on track 1 to T8, clear security and proceed to gate.

Thanks - what time should I set aside for the immigration process and getting thru security at T8.

Customs is always a crapshoot depending on time of day and passenger volume; could take 15 minutes or an hour and 15 minutes! I'd allow at least two hours for customs, transit between terminals and T8 security. Allowing a little more time couldn't hurt!

Thanks - I arrive at 2:15 pm in the afternoon at T4 and have a window of 45 minutes for the first connecting flight at T8 or the next 6 hours later. I guess irrespective of how quick customs maybe at 2:15 in the afternoon the safe shot is the later flight - in which case does American / American Eagle provide lounge services at T8?

T8 has an Admirals Club in both the domestic and international areas, if you have proper access.

I was wondering if someone could give me information on the following: I am arriving at JFK at 5:10pm and have a connecting flight at 8:20pm to Toronto but the flight to YYZ is standby, so my baggage probably won't be checked through. Will I have enough time to get my luggage and catch my connecting flight? (arrival and departure will be at Terminal 8) Furthermore I would like to know if I will need the ESTA? $14.- p.person sounds a lot if I just have to collect my luggage. :(

can i walk from terminal 8 to 9 ? and how long is the distance? thank you

There's no terminal 9 at JFK. Take AirTrain to travel between terminals.

I will arrive from Europe to the terminal 8 (Finnair, Helsinki) and my domestic connection flight (AA, San Francisco) will departure from the same terminal 2h 15min later. Is that enough? What is the minimum connection time inside the terminal 8? I'm EU citizen.

Thank you!

My son left his mac book pro laptop lay somewhere around gates 32-34 on August 8, 2012 around 3:00pm. Very important to get it back as it is his college lap top and we don't have money for a new one. Please respond to this or dhimes4998@gmail.com with information. Thank You

Hi. I am flying from Tokyo and arrive in JFK at 6.25am and then want to fly to Miami at 9am. Both these flights are American Airlines flights? Do I still have to clear immigration if I am only in transit? Will this be enough time? Thank you.

Im arriving in jfk on aa199 on oct 17 at 13.40 and I should board on aa1813 to orlando at 14.55. As there is only one hour to do immigration and customs fomalities and board the other flight, I would like to know if a speed transfer exist provided by the airport or american airlines. Please note that we are a party if two with hand luggage only. Thanks and regards
