It is completely and 100%
It is completely and 100% illegal for him to have his kid directing flights up there, especially after 9/11. JFK was acting in complete accordance of it's rules when they fired him; he made a stupid mistake. While obviously no harm was done, people should never be exempt from rules just because what they're doing might be "cute." A rule is a rule, and a law is a law.

Jeeeez talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
Child in Control Tower
Just an opinion from a member of the flying public:
You should stand behind your employee. After hearing the facts in this case, it really seems that it has been blown out of proportion. We are becoming such a nation of tightly wound idiots. It would be a crying shame if someone lost their job over this situation. He's obviously very good at his job or he wouldn't be working at JFK. I feel completely confident putting myself in the hands of the air traffic controllers at JFK, whether they have their children stop in for the day or not.
What our children need to develop into independent, well-developed adults is another subject all together. Exposing your child to your workplace and responsibilities is a wonderful way to help them understand the realities of life and their developing role as a contributing human being. More people should do what this parent did. Kudos to the other people in the tower who recognized this and helped enable it to happen.
Child on the tower of course.... :)
I'm agree that fired the ATC and his supervisor for it , it is not of my point of view a good thing , we must replace all this in its context , a kid supervised by an ATC perform his job , how many times childs follow his parent to see and "do" their job, discover their world.
We are in the USA , were all is possible .... ;)

For someone to loose their job over having their child involved in their job is insane. It is very clear that this boy had his father right there with him coaching him on exactly what to say. No harm no foul. It sickens me that a great father will loose his job over wanting to give his son a memorable experience. The pilots don't seem bothered so whats the big deal?
ATC Controller on Suspension
Please forward this message to the ATC controller and his supervisor that have been placed on suspension.
I would like you to know that I feel horrible for what is happening to you guys and your families over what the media calls an "incident" on February 17th. Sirs, it is apparent by listening to the ATC transmissions aired on TV this morning, that the youngster in question was obviously under direct supervision. The pilots seemed to appreciate having an interested youngster on the other end of their radio that morning as well. I am not a pilot nor a controller, but I have about 15 years of experience in downed aircraft SAR and I know enough about the aviation industry to know the difference between safe and not-safe operations. To the youngster in the middle of all of this: keep your chin-up kiddo, don't let what you see on TV dictate what you want to do in life! I think it is absolutely awesome that you showed the interest as well as the attention to detail to forward traffic to those pilots and you did it well! To the young man's parent: I think you are getting short-changed my friend and it's a shame. Be proud of your kid and don't let the media get to you. The folks that are the most upset about this are the folks that have the least understanding of what it is you do every day. Unfortunately, as usual, the powers that be, the FAA and JFK ATC are playing the CYA game, pandering to the masses of folks that have no clue what they are talking about.
child on air traffik
i think the media and or the person who reported this incident are absolutely enormously blowing this out of perportion,CLEARLY, the pilots were making the childs visit a memorable one, these pilots are highly educated and responsible. SHAME on the person or persons responsible for turning it around to a child feeling responsible for his fathers suspension,my heart goes out to that child and his family. i will not ever support jfk until i feel confident they are fair.
Hi
Judy, I do agree with you - however JFK airport has 4 runways. i know his father/mom was with him at all times during this clearance. But what if something went wrong (god Forbid)
You have one aircraft landing, one taking off. It shouldnt have happened - where safety is the main concern here.
Reminds me of an aeroflot pilot who let his son take over the controls at 30000Ft, did anything happen - YES!!
Its safety Judy, thats all I am concerned about.
Child doing the traffic control
I think that it is highly commendable that this responsible parent and human being brought their kid to work and let them safely partake in his daily job. Anyone who feels that this was in any way not the right thing to do needs to learn a little about human development and the well being of a child. I would gladly fly in any airplane where this type of thing takes place. As a matter of fact I would enjoy it beyond belief. Broadcast it over the plane's intercom and make it even more of a "family" event. Can you imagine how good the world would be if everyone would take their kids to work and let them participate for simply one day a year? If understand kids in any way I'll bet that you would understand that this positive type of thing will change a kid for the better for the rest of their life. Of course safety is the number one priority but I'm positive that there was no harm or chance of any danger with this situation.
It honestly hurts me to think that this guy and child is going to get punished for a dad being a great parent and trying to make a difference in his kid's life.
I agree! I think it is GREAT
I agree! I think it is GREAT this man had his child at work and he let the child participate! The media is making a HUGE deal out of nothing. Let the man return to work for goodness sake!! I think he should be applauded for being a great dad, not punished!
renovation delays
I understand that the renovations on the bay runway are causing one hour delays on all flights in and out of JFK. Is this true? I'm meant to land at 6am on March 8, and I'm trying to determine if it will be better to fly into Newark to avoid the delays as I have a 7am conference call that I can't miss. Thanks!
Re: renovation delays
To be on the safe side I will suggest you to change your flight into Newark. One our is very risky with the current conditions at JFK.

Terminal 4
Hello, I'm meeting someone at jfk on 3-4 they are coming from Sweden to terminal 4,do you know where I can meet them? Or where I can tell them to look for me? Thank you for your help.
Re: Flight from Sweden
Terminal 4 , arrivals hall has a convenient waiting area where you can see ALL passengers arriving on international flights. It is located on the first floor in the middle of the hall.
