Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints.
With certain exceptions for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, baby formula and breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, the following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols you want to carry through a security checkpoint.
3–1–1 for carry-ons

- 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag
- 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin.
One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measur
Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints.
Updates to the TSA Security Requirements(effective November 10, 2006):
Latest security bans according to the TSA Security Directives
Summary of Security Directive Changes for Flights departing from and within the U.S.
- Effective November 10, 2006, the TSA has advised that travelers may now carry through security checkpoints travel-size toiletries (3.4 ounces/100 ml or less) that fit comfortably in ONE, QUART-SIZE, clear plastic re-sealable bag. At the security checkpoint passengers will be asked to remove the clear plastic re-sealable bag from their accessible baggage and place it in a separate bin or on the conveyor belt for screening. X-raying these items separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items. In addition, prescription liquid, gel and aerosol medications, baby formula/milk/food, and diabetic glucose treatments must be declared at the checkpoint for additional screening if they are not included in the ONE QUART clear plastic re-sealable bag.
- Passengers who attempt to bring undeclared liquids, gels, or aerosols into the sterile area without providing to the TSA for separate screening may be subjected to secondary screening.
- Passengers who purchase liquids, gels, and/or aerosols in the sterile area are now allowed to take them onboard the aircraft.
- Duty Free liquids, gels, and/or aerosols purchased inside the sterile area may be brought onboard the aircraft by passengers, and no longer must be delivered to the aircraft.

yerba mate (tea)
Hi,

TSA Locks
I have a good luggage from Delsey which I have been using for years, since I travel 4 months per year, so I spend quite some money on luggage and was happy with it's performance. New York was my latest addtion to my travel destination.
How disappointed I was when I arrived back to Hong Kong from JFK.
My luggage was equipped with TSA lock and additionally I have a security strap around the luggage tho that doesn't have a TSA lock.
After landing in HKG, at the luggage claim. The look of my luggage was terrible. The strap was cut, and then instead of opening the TSA lock, JFK custom used spiners to open the zipper instead.
So what's the point having a TSA lock when the custom doesn't use it??? Also the luggage is not cheap

Thank you very much.

Security staff
I laughed at JFK's website asking travellers to be patient when going through security. Having just travelled from JFK, I can honestly say that I have never seen such impatient security staff at any airport. The way the women on the security desks spoke to some travellers was a disgrace, shouting at them because they had not queued correctly (I wasn't one of the unfortunate passengers, thankfully!). This was at the intial check of the passport and boarding card, prior to proceeding to the bag check. What is it about security staff at airports? Having said that, they were a pleasure to deal with in London. I would consider making a formal complaint about it, but can't see any details for contacting them on the website. Maybe when my jetlag has cleared ...

Breast Pump
Hi,
I am traveling without my child, but I will need to bring my breast pump with me on my trip because I will need to express milk while traveling. Will I have any problems with the pump being a carry on item? I know it may seem strange that I will have such a device without a child present so I wanted to inquire about my situation before I arrive at the airport.
Thank you,
Sarah
(I will be traveling out of the country)
I went to the airport too
I went to the airport too late and I could not check in my luggage. Then I talked to a security guard and leave my luggage next to the gate, and I get on to the plane. I let someone else to pick up my luggage right after I departure. When my aunt was trying to get my luggage, which is the one next to the airport gate, the NYPD talked to her about this luggage and the police called my school to confirm that I am the student. Finally, they let my aunt took my luggage. Will I get any troubles because of this?
