re:On April 17, I arrive to New York JFK at 14:30 on terminal 8
Hi Enrique,
You have time to catch your connecting flight(unless Mexicana brings you at JFK late).
Take Airtrain in the second floor, track 2 to Terminal 5.
You can transfer your suitcases at Connecting flights counter which is located right after you exit the customs.
The map shows the old Terminal 5(which is closed). The new Terminal 5(not shown on that map) is open.

Hi Daniel,
This is nice information and great news for JFK. Would you be able to post it in "JFK Airport Parking" section as well. Most of the people will look for that kind of info there.
We wish you successful business!!!

I will be arriving at JFk on
I will be arriving at JFk on Sunday, May 2 from Rome into Terminal 3 at 2:00 PM. I have a connecting flight to Atlanta departing from Terminal 1 at 4:40. I am assuming that I pick up my checked luggage, go thru immigration and customs and recheck the luggage all in Terminal 3? Is this correct? Where do I get on Airtrain to go to Terminal 1? How long does getting the luggage and going thru immigration and customs normally take? Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Joyce,
Your information is a little bit confusing - Terminal 1 does not have domestic flights. Let me know what airlines are you flying on.

JFK to Hotel Edison, near Grand central
On Monday April,19th me and my wife will arrive around 13:00 at JFK. Could you please tell me what they best way is to travel to Hotel Edison, 228 West 47th Street, New York? (And what does it cost?)
We have a 7 days metro card, so metro is free for us that week.
Thank you for your time !
Take the AirTrain from your
Take the AirTrain from your arrival terminal to Jamaica Station. Then take the inbound E subway to 50th St. exit to Broadway and walk three blocks down to 47th St., turn right and hotel is 1/2 block down.
50th street stop is closer to Edison Hotel
Thanks BG,
I see that 50th street stop(subway E) is closer to Edison Hotel.
I stand corrected.

re:JFK to Hotel Edison, near Grand central
Hotel Edison is located close to Times Square(not Grand Central). Since you have MetroCards then you can use public transportation to get there.
Take Airtrain from any terminal on track 1 to Jamaica Station( be careful - on that track there are two alternating trains going to different routes; check the sign above the doors as the train arrives; the red colored sign is Jamaica one). Then take subway line E to 42nd street stop.
Note: At Jamaica station you have to pay for your Airtrain ride which is $5.00/person. Buy MetroCard at the station for that purpose(that MetroCard is different from the ones you have).
If you choose to avoid the public transportation there is an express bus(NYAS - New York Airport Service) that leaves each terminal every 20-30 min and goes to Times Square;it costs $15/person.

Extra card needed ?
Thank you for your information!
I have bought a MTA Metro Card. On their site they note that it is valid for JFK-Airtrain .
Can you please tell me why I have to buy a different card as you said before? And where do I buy that new card: at JFK (before I use the Airtrain ) or at Jamaica Station (after I have used the Airtrain)?
Thank you for all your help !
re:Extra card needed ?
If that MetroCard is unlimited 7 days MetroCard, then you won't be able to use it to pay for your Airtrain ride(those cards are strictly subway cards). In this case you have to buy a MetroCard at Jamaica(after you use the Airtrain and before you exit the Airtrain system) and pay for your Airtrain ride.
There is only one type of MetroCards that you can use in both subway and Airtrain - it is call Pay-Per-Ride Metrocard. It has cash value and every time you use this Matrocard in subway or Airtrain that value decreases(either resp. by $2.25 or by $5.00).

Thank You
You are right, we have unlimited Metro Cards.
This forum/blog is a very good service !

Arriving Internationally, then have a one way ticket?
Hello,
We will be traveling from Europe to JFK. From there my friend and I have each booked a completely separate flight home to different destinations. We will be unable to check in online before arriving at JFK for our flights domestically out of JFK. Once we clear customs, will we have to exit the airport and go back through ticketing to check in/get out boarding passes for our next flights, or can we go the connecting flights route and then check in at our gates?
re:Arriving Internationally, then have a one way ticket?
It depends how did you check your bags in Europe:
if you check them through all the way till your final destination - then you can use connecting flights counter(or you can use the mentioned down second scenario);
In other case you have to go to the check-in counter of the airline that will fly you within US.

Transportation payment method to and from JFK/Manhattan
If I decide to use as transportation - Yellow cab (from JFK to any point in Manhattan) or shuttle that takes me to any hotel in Manhattan, what payment options do I have? Does the taxi & shuttle services takes as payment method MC/Visa/ or just cash?
How can I arrange shuttle or taxi transportation for the end of my stay in a Manhattan hotel? Is there a number I can call to arrange the ride from the hotel to JFK?
Thanks in advance..
