The minimum altitude is normally 1000 feet above the highest obstacle. If the airplane is taking off or landing(unfortunately - this is your case), then he can fly as low as he needs to in order to make a safe approach or take off.
I guess you will see those planes more often during next couple of months due to the closed down runway 13-31.
I am not familiar with a way to find what level the plane is actually at .

I am traveling to canada from the U.S.. I have a connector flight from JFK to my final destination in Boston... do I go through customs in NY or when I reach Boston?

If yo are flying from a major Canadian airport to the US you will go thru US customs at your departure airport, where US Customs & Immigration have operations set up for US departures. No need to hassle with US customs at JFK!!

2 Questions please:
I have an iberia flight IB7084 that is using american airlines to catch a cruise in barcelona spain on 5/15/10 at 12 noon. Should I be concerned about a delay given the runway expansion project? Can I change my flight with out incurring a fee? IB7084 is scheduled to land at 8:45 am in barcelona on 5/15/10 ???

Also, how do I contact american airlines to let them know my special needs son will be traveling with my family and I?

There might be some delays of some flights out of JFK due to that construction and if you want to have peace of mind you can reschedule your flight. Speak to AA or Iberia regarding waiving the fees.

Take Airtrain from any terminal on track 1 to Howard Beach Station( be careful - on that track there are two alternating trains going to different routes; check the sign above the doors as the train arrives; the green colored sign is Howard Beach one).
Then take subway A towards Manhattan and get off at 59th Street/Columbus Circle stop. There transfer to subway line 1 going uptown till 103rd street stop. Cost - $7.25;time~1.5 hours.

Hi. Doing stop over in JFK on my way to Europe. Have a little over a day, 26 hours in New York before my
next Delta flight. Can I check a bag or two in upon arrival so I can travel light in New York City for those 26 hours?

Most of the airlines(if not all) have their passengers check in the bags no earlier than 3-4 hours before the flight leaves.
