Regardless you will need to pick up your luggage to clear customs/immigration and then either take to connecting flights counter or check-in with KX at T1. Take AirTrain-track 2 on 3rd floor of T4 to T1. Three hours should be enough time.

Hope that your arriving AA flight is not delayed!! Take Airtrain on track 2 from terminal 8 to terminal 1, takes about 10 minutes. Advise you try to arrive at JFK on an earlier flight if possible.
