my friends are flying from
my friends are flying from russia by aeroflot to term 1 and them taking another plain to tampa(by delta). I was told that if they r runnig late, they didnt have to go term 3 to check in, they could use term2, but I just read at delta's web site, that only 1st and business class passengers as well as elite club members(or smth like that)could check in for all destinations at term 2.all others had to use term3. does it mean they wont let them in at term2, even if they are barely making it to the plain on time(wich will not be nesessarely happening, but there's a chance). And also their plain leaves from gate #26 wich is right by term's 3 security check point! Than you again.
re:my friends are flying from
Business/Elite check-in for Delta is at Terminal 2 as well as a section for regular(Economy) check-in.
Delta usually tries not to send everybody from economy class to check-in at T2 for the simple reason that there are only 4-5 check-in counters for that purpose. And I have never seen big lines there.
Gate #26 is located in Terminal 2 - check this up to date terminal map of JFK:

No, they have never turned anybody down, regardless of the destination.

Friday afternoon June 18 airport transport time question
Calla99:
My son and I will be in NYC on the upper West Side on a college visit on Friday 6/18. I am trying to figure out what time we'd have to leave the city in order to get to the airport for a 4:30 pm flight, as against when we would have to leave the city for an 8pm flight.
Can you tell me (1) How much time I should allow on Friday afternoon if we have to drive a rental car back to JFK (and return it), and (2) How much time to allow if we take train/taxi etc.? Also (3) If we don't have to deal with the rental car, which method -- train/taxi/supershuttle, etc. -- is most efficient in terms of getting from upper West Side to JFK. And, finally, (4) Is the transit time going to be significantly different whether we take the 4:30 or 8 pm flight?
Thanks very much for your advice.
re:My son and I will be in NYC on the upper West Side
1. If you don't know your way driving around NYC, allow yourself 4-5 hours(driving+returning the car+getting to the terminal+check-in).
2. For a taxi - 1 hour; train - 1.5-2 hours.
3. I would say taxi is more efficient.
4. If you mean driving, coming for 8pm flight you will face more traffic than coming for 4:30pm flight(traffic from NYC to JFK is heavier from 4pm till 6pm when everybody is getting off from work and driving away from the city).

Thanks for your reply. But are you serious about 4-5 hours to get to JFK, return car and get to terminal for check-in?
re:Calla99: Thanks for your
Yes, I am taking in account the time that you have to be at the terminal before departing(usually 2-2.5 hours).
1.5 hours roughly for driving from Manhattan to JFK, 0.5 hours for returning the car and getting to JFK from rental car facility and 2-2.5 hours for checking and going through security.

Will I have time
Hello, I am flying through JFK in July from DC to Accra Ghana on Delta which I always seem to have a bad experience with them when I travel through JFK. My concern is on the way back from Accra to JFK to DC my plane lands at 5pm and I depart to DC at 6:30PM From Accra Ghana on Delta in July. Will I have enough time to re check my bags to DC and clear Immigration and Customs??
re:Will I have time
You should be OK as long as Delta from Accra is on time. You don't need to change buildings/terminals.
