Dear JFK team members:
I am kinda worried about my future flight and I heard a lot of good things about this site so I decided to give it a try and see if someone can help me with my question/concern. I originally bought the ticket for American Airlines that supposed to depart from JFK at 335PM May. I bought that ticket back in November of 2010 and it had scheduled departure time of 335PM now when I look at online to see if the time of the same ticket is the same and said the flight departure has swas changed 335 to 430PM on that day, same airlines and same flight number. How is that possible? Could someone nice out here explain whether airlines have the right to change flight departure time without notifying their loyal customer? Or am I in trouble?
Worried traveler

You can always give them a call to double check on the departure times. Airlines do change their flight times at their own discretion for business purposes and this is not uncommon.

Hi all, our family is flying Delta leaving Halifax travelling to Orlando. We must connect at terminal 3. Do we have to check our luggage again and go through customs in New York?? Thanks in advance!!

Yes since you are arriving on an international flight you will have to clear both immigration and U.S Customs upon entering U.S at JFK Airport. Yes you will have to recheck your bags again at terminal 3 Delta check in counter.

For those people that still don't know it - there are certain locations in Canada(called preclearance locations)where US bound air passengers clear customs and immigration. Therefore, the flights from those locations come as domestic flights in US.And their checked-through bags will be transfered automatically to their connecting flights.
Here is the list of those Canadian airports:

  • Calgary International Airport
  • Edmonton International Airport
  • Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport
  • Montreal Trudeau International Airport
  • Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier International Airport
  • Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport
  • Vancouver International Airport
  • Winnipeg International Airport

"The Halifax Stanfield International Airport is the only airport in Atlantic Canada to offer U.S. preclearance, and Canada Customs services on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis. U.S.-bound passengers are able to clear customs and immigration in the Halifax airport, allowing them to be treated as domestic passengers on arrival in the U.S., where they can enjoy shorter and easier connections."

I will arrive from Roma Alitalia AZ610 6.15 PM
My son will arrive from Los Angeles UA 10 7.25 PM
Where is easier to meet us ( well'take a taxi to Manhattan Hotel ) ?
How much time or me to pass US Custom and take back luggage?
Thanks for any help.

You will arrive at T1 and he will arrive at T7. You can meet each other at T7. Take airtrain (on the third floor of T1) to T7(~5min free ride). It will take you(or him) about 30mins to 1 hr to pass immigration/customs.
Take a yellow cab across the street from T7 - the fare is flat of $45 plus $5.50 toll plus tip.

We will be flying in from Europe. We have two possible connection flights that we could book. Both meet connecting time requirements; only our preferred is five minutes over the requirements. While we not so much worry about the luggage, our concerns are the queue at Immigration. If our incoming flight is a little late, would we be able to ask the queuing manager to let us skip the queue upon presenting proof of the connecting flight or would they make us waiting in line until it is our turn? Thanks for your suggestion.

I dont think you can do that although you can always politely ask the manager.

Is departures on the same level as arrivals for Delta at JFK?

No, at none of their terminals.

I"m trying to decide between two separate flights. One has a connection time of 1:57 hours, so I'm not worried about that. But the other is Delta Flight 5094, and the connection flight is Delta flight 2294, the connection time is 38 min. Will this be enough time, or should I book the flight with the longer connection time?

Nevertheless you should get a time frame of 1:57 minutes to have a comfortable connection.

Check the flights again - those two flights are not meeting at the same airport at all.(DL2294 is ATL-PHL and DL5094 is CHA-DTW).
