Delta will take you non stop from JFK and Atlanta and British Airways will take you non stop from LAX to London

My wife and kids will be flying on Delta arriving from Boston on 31 Dec around 6 pm to join SQ0025 for Singapore on the same day at 9pm. Can the bags be checked straight through from Boston so they wont have to take them out and re-check in again at JFK?

Yes you can. Inform the Delta ground staff that you are checking the baggage all the way through. It might happen that Delta might not be interested. I have been however fortunate, with AA agreeing to forward the luggage.

As far as I know, you can check in the baggages at Boston, through Delta and continue ur flight from the intermediary airport without having to check your baggage out again. But it would depend on Delta ground staff. I had flown from New York to Auckland via LA, and checked in my baggage at New York. I didn't have to collect my baggage at LA. However, my flight from LA to Auckland was booked through Qantas and from new York to LA ws through AA. They (Qantas) had a tie up with the AA. Best option is to ask Delta directly whether they would be willing.

What are the baggage restrictions on a return journey to and from the UK ?

Generally the free allowance to and from the UK is 2 pieces each person, each piece not weighing more than 20kg/50lb. As the poster above says, check with your airline, if you have a ticket booked already, the details will be on your itinerary.

you would need to check with your airline

Can you get a limo from jfk to hotel in manhatten or have you to prebook one?

My 66 year old husband will be waiting for a connecting flight for 6 hours, after midnight. Is there somewhere he can safely rest during this time?

There are a bunch of hotels near JFK and if your husband will choose to wait at the terminal, I'm sure it is safe there even at nights.

I flew in Saturday night from London (vacation). I went through Immigration with such speed only to be held up at the baggage claim area for 30-40 mins waiting for my luggage. Also, I think JFK could take a few lesson from Heathrow. The luggage trolleys at Heathrow are FREE - I know, that word is unheard of here in NYC. To think we have to pay $3 to take a trolley - i feel it is so 'tourist unfriendly' - I actually cringe when I see tourists trying to grab a trolley only to be told they must pay - you can see the question look in their eyes.

Do you pay them cash or credit card?
Its a shame, if you are flying in your air ticket already has the Airport fee paid for.
$3 is just irritating.

Karen, Maybe charging 3 for a trolley is not very "tourist friendly" but I don't think that any airport should take lessons from Heathrow. I flew through Heathrow on 3 separate occassions and missed my connection every single time. The lines at Heathrow are unrealistic and therefore maybe Heathrow should learn something from JFK

I have a question about spotting. I have some friends who will be flying in on an international flight. I have 2 questions:

1. How can I find out what runway the plane will be landing on?

2. How can I find out where to find the runway from some spotting point?

Thanks.

leaving JFK on friday i was asthonished about the way the security staff is organised. Some off them have a rude tone..long wainting lines before the x-ray of the handcarried stuff. And, we stood directly in front of one of these gates (you have to pull off your shoes), they close the line and leave us standing there like cows witout shoes. After 15 min and insisting, one guy strolling around, told us sth. about shift change.
This is absolutely unprofessional and a behaviour which is not acceptable , i am sorry!
