There are 8 operating airline terminals At JFK Airport, Terminals 1 to 8. Terminals are located around the central terminal area (CTA). The terminals and parking lots in the central terminal area are divided into five areas.

It depends how the two
It depends how the two flights are booked. If they are booked on one ticket then the first airline is responsible to rebook(at no cost) the passenger for the second flight. If the flights are booked on separate tickets then the passenger is responsible for rescheduling his second flight(which most of the times involves rescheduling fees).

This is a question you need to ask your airline. Most airlines try to do everything possible when a connection is missed due to delay however I'm not sure if the airline has any contractual obligations.
SAT-IRELAND
I will arrive from SAT (San Antonio) on Delta 1246 @ 1:04 PM and depart on Air Lingus E1110 @ 6:30 PM March 27.
Questions:
1. What terminal services the Delta flight arrival?
2. What terminal services the Air Lingus departure?
3. Will I have enough time to change flights? 5 1/2 hours
4. Do I check my bags directly from SAT to Shannon or do I pick them up and recheck them at JFK?
I return from Shannon on Air Lingus April 3 arriving @ 3:35 PM and depart JFK on Delta @ 810 PM.
Questions:
1. Will I have enough time to go through customs and change planes? 4 1/2 hours
2. Can I recheck bags immediately upon leaving customs or do I go to Delta terminal check-in and recheck bags?
3. What is the method of transportation from terminal to terminal?

1. Delta flights usually arrive T2 or T3.
2. Aer Lingus is in T4
3. You should have plenty of time
4. Ask at Delta check-in in SAT if your bags will be checked all the way through to Shannon. If not you will need to re-check at JFK Aer Lingus.
1. You will clear US customs at Shannon so no need to hassle with customs at JFK.
2. Ask at Shannon check-in about your bags being checked through to SAT since you will not have to deal with customs at JFK. If not you will need to re-check at JFK Delta.
3. Take AirTrain between terminals; track 1 from T2/3 to T4 and track 2 on the return.

Icelandair lands in Terminal 7 and AA departs from Terminal 8.
