JFK International Airport AirTrain

AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK
International Airport, Long Island Rail Road trains and New York City Subway.
It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.

Air Train JFK has
3 routes:

  • Howard Beach route

The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.

Connecting transit services: A subway train, Q11 bus

  • Jamaica Station route

The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn
and Manhattan or Queens).

Connecting transit services: E, J and Z subway
trains, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q20A, Q20B, Q25/Q34, Q30, Q31, Q40, Q43, Q44, Q60  and
Q65 buses

Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.

  • Airline Terminal route

The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,
4, 5-6, 7 and 8-9). Route operates in the opposite direction, making a clockwise
loop.
All JFK AirTrain stations are wheelchair accessible. Howard Beach subway and
Jamaica Long Island Railroad stations are wheelchair accessible too.

To get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 7, one can get the AirTrain on either track. Taking the AirTrain on track 1 will take about *ten* minutes, as that train will make stops at Terminals 2/3, 4, and 5 before arriving at Terminal 7.

Taking the All-Terminal AirTrain on track 2 will be a little faster, as that train will only stop at Terminal 8 before arriving at Terminal 7.

Rather than waiting for any particular train, it probably makes sense to take whichever train arrives first.

we will have a 10 hrs, transit time &want to visit Manhattan. We are reaching JFK at 6A.M and next flight at 4P.M.please advice best possibility

Thanks

on a wednesday night 8 p.m. how long would it take to go from the airport to the PATH at world trade center? Would the E line throug Jamaica be the best option?

Two alternatives; take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station and then E subway to the end at WTC OR AirTrain on track 1 to Howard Beach Station and then A subway to Fulton St, you can transfer to PATH at both stations. Travel time on AirTrain is about 15 minutes and about 45-50 minutes on either subway. You'll have a shorter walk to PATH from the E subway. Your choice!

Is it possible to travel between terminal 4& 7. How long is the journey and how frequent are trains

No it is not possible. You can only get from one terminal to the next by an air train from terminal 4 on track 1 to terminal 7.

we are taking the air train from jamaica to JFK tomorrow morning at 10:30, will there be any delays on the air train?

The Airtrain is the best way to go. You have to be aware of Rush Hour so I would Advise taking a train to Jamaica Station. Then the Airtrain to JFK.

Been stuck in the air train for over an hour now. Many people upset because they are missing their flights. I highly doubt they will get reimbursed for their flights. God this really sucks!!!!!

I am flying into NYK at 2:30pm, I will leave for Ireland out of NYK at 10:00PM. I want to go to Bayside to see some older aunts and an uncle while I am waiting for connecting flight.
MY Uncle told me I could take the train from JFK to the Jamaica station and then catch the 31 bus to a stop on 32nd Ave. I might just take a taxi from the train station to his house, but I would like to know how to get this train from the airport to the Jamaica station, and how long does it typically take?
Any help would be great. I am nervous thinking about it. I might break down and get a taxi both ways, but i would prefer to save a bit of money.
THank you! ;)

I would take the AirTrain to Jamaica then either take a taxi to Bayside. You should be at JFK by at least 8:00 if you have luggage to check. It also depends what airline you are flying. Aer Lingus departs from Terminal 4 usually. Delta departs from T4, T3, and T2. You should take the Taxi back to Jamaica and take the AirTrain to your Terminal.

You take the AirTrain from terminal on track 1 designated to Jamaica Station, travel time about 10-15 minutes. Travel time on the bus is about 45 minutes, $2.25 each way. Taxi is about $40 each way.

There is limited service on the Q31 bus ($2.25), and they do not run late, so I would not take it at 10:00pm. However, I think taking it at 2:30 will be fine (you might just have to wait a bit).

To get to the Jamaica station from the Airport, you need to take the JFK Airtran ($5) to the Jamaica station; it will take approximately 15-20 minutes from what I can remember. To get to Bayside from Jamaica, I would say that will take another 20 minutes or so. So just to be safe, I would say the trip will take 45 minutes or so, and taking a cab is always a good option too if you don't want to deal with this...

Hello! We are arriving on the 16-th of September. We need to get our hotel which is at 161 Lexington Avenue. What train/subway we need to use? Tottaly lost with the map.

Take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, transfer to the E subway to Lexington/53rd St, transfer to the downtown #6 subway to 28th St, walk two blocks north on Lexington to hotel.
