JFK International Airport AirTrain
AirTrain JFK is the train service that operates between JFK
International Airport, Long Island Rail Road trains and New York City Subway.
It also serves as an on-airport service connecting the airline terminals, rental
car facilities, hotel shuttles, and airport parking lots.
Air Train JFK has
3 routes:
- Howard Beach route
The Howard Beach route ends at the Howard Beach-JFK subway station. It stops
at Lefferts Boulevard (connecting transit services - B15 bus) for shuttle buses
to long term parking lots A and B and to airport employee parking.
Connecting transit services: A subway train, Q11 bus
- Jamaica Station route
The Jamaica route ends at Jamaica Station on the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)
next to the Sutphin Boulevard/Archer Avenue-JFK subway station (to Brooklyn
and Manhattan or Queens).
Connecting transit services: E, J and Z subway
trains, Q6, Q8, Q9, Q20A, Q20B, Q25/Q34, Q30, Q31, Q40, Q43, Q44, Q60 and
Q65 buses
Both routes make a counterclockwise loop through the airport and stop at each
terminal.
- Airline Terminal route
The Airline Terminal route connects 6 terminal stations (Terminal 1, 2-3,
4, 5-6, 7 and 8-9). Route operates in the opposite direction, making a clockwise
loop.
All JFK AirTrain stations are wheelchair accessible. Howard Beach subway and
Jamaica Long Island Railroad stations are wheelchair accessible too.

My husband will be coming in tomorrow in Terminal 1 from Casablanca at 3:45pm. And has a flight in terminal 5 at 5:15pm. Is that cutting it close & will he have to go through customs again?

So I am staying at the Waldorf next year. Have I this correct?
Airtrain direct to Jamaica, then E train direct to 53rd and Lexington?

My main concern is the Airtrain and as to whether it travels directly to Jamaica or do you transfer?
Also it appears that I pay my Airtrain fare on exit from Airtrain at Jamaica.
I apologise if my questions seem stupid, but I just want confirmation.

Yes, take a Jamaica-bound
Yes, take a Jamaica-bound AirTrain to Jamaica Station (no transfers involved), which will be the end of the line. At Jamaica, you will purchase a Metrocard to pay your AirTrain fare of $5.00. If you only need one subway fare for the E train ride from Jamaica to Lexington avenue/53rd Street, you can just buy a Metrocard for $7.25, and that will cover both your AirTrain fare and your subway fare. If you think that you will be using the subway and buses a lot during your visit to NYC, you might want to just buy a $5.00 Metrocard for the AirTrain ride, and an unlimited Metrocard for your bus/subway trips. (The unlimited Metrocard is NOT valid for the AirTrain fare.) Visit www.mta.info for more information about unlimited Metrocard options and cost.

I will be arriving from an abroad flight to JFK airport at 3:45pm on January 14. How can I get to NY Penn Station and how long you think is the ride there (not including inspections and security (because I am not a US citizen)?

Allow 45 minutes to one
Allow 45 minutes to one hour. Take AirTrain on track 1 from terminal to Jamaica Station, 15 minutes. Fastest, more convenient with luggage but more expensive is LIRR to Penn Station; 20 minutes. Or take E subway to 34th St/Penn Station, 45 minutes.
Getting to JFK
Hi,
I will be arriving by Megabus at 7th Ave & 28th St. New York on Jan. 5th bound to JFK to pick my wife who is expected to land at 5:30pm that day. Once I receive my wife, we have to rush back to catch the megabus at 9th Ave between 31st St and 33rd St. We are complete strangers to New York. Could anyone help us finding out the most economical yet speedy commuting options for these two routes? Thanks in advance! Best, Ron

How do I get from Bus stop to Terminal 1?
Hello,
I will take the Bus from Boston to New York and get to 7th/28th street on Dec 22 at 11:15am. Will you please tell me the best way to get to JFK Airport, Terminal 1 to catch my flight at 3:35pm? I am not familiar at all with public transportation in New York City so your help is very appreciated.

The cheapest way is to walk
The cheapest way is to walk up Seventh Avenue to 32nd Street, and then walk one block east to Sixth Avenue (Greeley Square). Enter the subway, buy a Metrocard for $4.50, and board a Queens-bound F train. Get off at Kew Gardens/Union Turnpike (about a 30-minute ride), and then board a JFK-bound Q10 Limited bus, which will get you to JFK Terminal 4 in about 35 minutes. You can then ride the "All Terminals" AirTrain free of charge for the five-minute ride to Terminal 1. You will get a free transfer from the F train to the Q10 Limited, so you will have $2.25 left on the Metrocard for future use.
A faster, but more expensive, route would be to walk up to 31st Street, enter Penn Station, and take a 20-minute ride on the Long Island Rail Road ($6.25) to Jamaica. At Jamaica, board the AirTrain ($5.00) for the 10-minute ride to Terminal 1.
As long as your bus from Boston is more or less on time, the cheaper subway-bus route should get you to Terminal 1 by about 1:00 PM.

Terminal transfer
Hi, Travelling with an 8 year old and I will be arriving at JFK @ 7:25pm on JetBlue from Florida on Terminal 5. I have a Qatar Airways flight at 10:50pm from Terminal 8. How do I get from Terminal 5 to 8 and do I have enough time to clear thru security, customs etc...@ Terminal 8.
